🛡️ Cybersecurity Boom in the Springs With 500 Jobs

Colorado Springs is gaining momentum as a tech and aerospace hub thanks to a major expansion by Infinity Technology Services (ITS), a minority-owned, veteran-led business already based in the city. ITS plans to add 500 new jobs with average salaries over $130K in fields like cybersecurity, software engineering, and systems administration. The company will invest more than $7 million in local growth, supported by state incentives, reinforcing Colorado Springs’ role as a national leader in defense technology and innovation.
🏅 A Cleanup Effort Worth Honoring

Since launching in 2023, Richards Rubbish Roundup, founded by longtime local Richard Skorman, has cleared over 4,100 bags of trash and removed more than 1,400 needles from Colorado Springs. Volunteers meet weekly to clean up public trails and creek areas, often wrapping up with pizza and camaraderie. Skorman emphasizes safety and encourages anyone to join—offering supplies and even volunteer help for those unable to organize cleanups themselves. For his leadership, he was recently honored with the News 5 Lighthouse Award. Want to help? Call (719) 238-1161 to get started. Full Story

🌮 A Tale of Two Taco Shops

Health inspections across El Paso County revealed major differences in how restaurants are handling food safety. 3 Margaritas in Widefield had 18 violations, including moldy citrus and unwashed hands, while others like Waffle House (Fillmore) and Jersey Mike’s (Constitution) also failed inspections.
In contrast, Sabor A Mexico Restaurant & Bakery on Circle earned top marks for cleanliness and quality, with owner Carlos Cabrera proudly serving slow-cooked tacos and fresh pan dulce. Full Story
Health inspection results across El Paso County are available online for those wanting to check their favorite spots.
*Note: Most local restaurants take food safety incredibly seriously. In fact, many owners respond to violations swiftly and thoroughly, often making fixes the same day while they wait for reinspection.

🥾 Miss Quiet Mornings? Try This Local Trail

If you’ve never explored Pineries Open Space just north of Shoup and Volmer, now’s a great time. Tucked away in Black Forest, this 1,070-acre haven blends scenic trails with fascinating history. Once part of a massive ranch owned by the Farrar family, the land evolved from cattle pastures to sustainable forestry. Today, you can enjoy:
🌲 Gentle Trails: 8.5 miles of single-track trail for hiking, running, biking (non-motorized), and horseback riding
🦌 Wildlife Watching: Spot elk, deer, raptors, and even wild turkeys
🚻 Amenities: Large trailhead, restrooms, ponds, and shaded forest paths
🐕 Dog-Friendly: Leashed dogs welcome
❌ No E-Bikes Allowed: Keep it quiet and calm for all users
The area is preserved under conservation easements to protect its natural beauty forever. Though it was severely damaged in the 2013 Black Forest Fire, the park finally opened to the public in 2020. Now it’s one of the most serene open spaces in El Paso County—especially during early morning or golden hour strolls.
Location: 13201 Volmer Road (.6 miles north of the intersection of Volmer and Shoup)
