💃 Spirit of COS Awarded

Connie Benavidez, affectionately known as “Grandma Connie,” was recently honored with the Spirit of Colorado Springs Award for her lifelong commitment to preserving and sharing Mexican folkloric dance. As founder of Ballet Folklórico de la Raza, she’s spent over 30 years creating space for youth of all backgrounds to experience culture through movement and tradition. Her handmade dresses—each representing a Mexican state—have graced stages from local festivals to national parades, including President Obama’s inauguration.
Her story is now part of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum’s Una Familia Grande exhibit, ensuring her vibrant contributions will inspire generations to come. Full Story

🏛️ City Braces for 2026 Cuts - These Will Sting

Facing a projected $31 million budget shortfall in 2026, the City of Colorado Springs is proactively implementing cost-saving measures to protect essential services like public safety and infrastructure. These include cutting 38 civilian jobs, scheduling unpaid furloughs, deferring capital projects, and permanently closing Meadows Park Community Center on Oct 10, 2025.
While difficult, city leaders say these early actions will help preserve long-term stability and maintain vital community programs through other centers and partner organizations. The city states a proposed 2026 budget will be presented on Oct 6, kicking off a public review process, although at this time we are unable to find a meeting on that date. We will keep an eye out for more info to share on this.
🌿 Fountain Creek Wins Big

Here’s a little local pride moment worth celebrating: the Fountain Creek Nature Center just won the Sustainability in Action Award at this year’s Visit Colorado Springs Tourism Awards Celebration. It’s a well-deserved honor for a nature center that walks its talk—integrating environmental care into everything from summer camps to garden design.
They continue to weave environmental responsibility into all facets of its work—from native gardens and low-waste events to engaging hands-on programs like upcycled crafts and camps. The center serves as a model of sustainability for the community, offering education, resources, and everyday inspiration to help residents and visitors reduce waste, protect wildlife, and embrace greener habits.
💡 The AI Shortcut That Saved Me Hours
Ever feel buried under paperwork you keep putting off? I did too. I had 90 business spotlight applicant PDFs sitting in a folder—none of them were in my CRM or spreadsheet. Ugh! 😩… click to read how I solved this at the FREE AI For Everyone Community
*Later this week I’ll share WHY I DID NOT do it another way that may have saved me even MORE time!
If you’ve got a pile of “someday” tasks sitting around… this might be your answer.

💋 Skip These Aging Makeup Mistakes
I rarely wear makeup, but when I do, I want it to look fresh and natural—not dated. Personally, clean, minimal, and practical is my lane (like using arrowroot as my setting powder!)
This video shares simple technique tweaks that make a big difference, especially for mature skin. I’m not endorsing the products in this video—just the helpful how-to’s. Hope it helps!
