A man saw an epitaph in a cemetery which read: 'Here lies an honest man and politician.'

👉'Shame,' he said, 'two people in the same grave'' 🤣

💰 City Budget: Cuts & Commitments From Mayor

City Budget: Cuts & Commitments From Mayor

To navigate a projected $31 million budget shortfall, Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi has proposed a 2026 budget that makes targeted cuts while keeping core services intact. Public safety is protected, with full funding for sworn officers, firefighters, and 9-1-1 call centers. The budget also invests in roads, snow removal, and a new “Keep It Clean and Safe” program aimed at addressing crime, litter, and homelessness.

To balance the books without raising taxes, the city will reduce its workforce by 1%, forgo employee raises, close Meadows Park Community Center, and restructure some services. While local small businesses are hoping for more direct support, city officials say the foundation for economic vibrancy begins with safe, clean streets. Despite the cuts, leaders say Colorado Springs remains fiscally strong and focused on long-term resilience.

Crashes Spike on Powers

Crashes Spike on Powers

Powers Boulevard has seen a string of multi-car accidents lately, and local police are urging drivers to slow down and stay alert. Many of the crashes stem from distractions or people rushing, especially in heavy traffic areas like Barnes and North Carefree. CSPD is reminding us all that a quick glance at your phone—or following too closely—can have serious consequences. Their advice? Give yourself space, check traffic before heading out, and stay focused behind the wheel. A few extra seconds of caution could make all the difference. Full Story

Tonight, this community event, beginning at 6pm, in Acacia Park (115 E Platte) is a heartfelt call to pause and reflect on the lives tragically taken or still unaccounted for. Organizers have created this gathering to hold space for collective grief, remembrance, and healing.

Local representatives and faith leaders will speak words of comfort and resolve, reminding us of the power of unity and the importance of not forgetting. Open to all and free to attend, this evening is meant to honor those impacted by violence—both directly and indirectly—and to remind us we’re not alone in our mourning. Full Story

Trivia: What Secrets Lie Beyond Fairview’s Gates?

Fairview Cemetery Crawl

Fairview Cemetery Crawl 2013

Did you know Fairview Cemetery, just off 26th Street, began as the vision of Anthony Bott—a miner, pioneer, and co-founder of Colorado City—who donated its 32-acre plot in 1895 in exchange for precious water rights? His gift became the region’s resting place for the working class and pioneers of Colorado City, now Old Colorado City, where the stories of prospectors, saloon keepers, madams, and Civil War veterans whisper among the limestone markers.

Which infamous local “madam,” known for her role in the city’s red-light history, is laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery—becoming one of its most talked-about residents?

The cemetery’s first recorded burial was in October 1895, though the land had witnessed sorrow long before—with some burials claimed as early as the 1870s, well before the city officially purchased it. Today, as you walk its grounds with golden Pikes Peak views, Fairview is more than a cemetery—it’s a vibrant chapter of the city’s frontier past, and every grave tells a story.
