Dear Colorado Springs Town Tidings family,

📞 Local 911 Center Gets Big Upgrade

El Paso County’s 911 call center has officially reopened after a $2.4M expansion that took four months to complete. Now the largest emergency communications center in Colorado, the facility has grown to include 20 upgraded dispatch consoles, 22 radio stations, and a specialized training center with backup call stations. A new wellness room and improved soundproofing aim to reduce stress for dispatchers, whose work has grown in demand as the region's population surges. In 2024 alone, the center responded to nearly 83,000 emergency calls—quadruple what it handled when it first opened in 2012. This facility now has faster average call-answer times and a growing focus on community outreach. Full Story
🚫 Fatal Crashes Prompt Change

In response to two recent fatal motorcycle crashes and a history of dangerous collisions, Colorado Springs has temporarily prohibited left turns and U-turns at the intersection of Union and Garmish. Crews installed vertical delineators—plastic traffic guides—to prevent risky turning movements and calm traffic in the area.
Though similar barriers sparked debate on Cheyenne Blvd last year, neighbors near Union & Garmish have long advocated for changes to improve safety. The city will monitor how drivers respond and may make the change permanent, potentially replacing the delineators with a concrete median. In the meantime, drivers can reroute using Vickers and Del Rey. Full Story
📱 Donate a Lifeline

Every October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month serves as a reminder that far too many in our community silently endure harm behind closed doors. Colorado Springs Police Department is using this month to raise awareness, offer support to survivors, and continue the hard work of prevention. One simple way to help? Donate an old or broken phone to CSPD’s “Phone It Forward” program—these devices become critical lifelines for survivors seeking safety and connection. Together, as neighbors, we can help break the silence and offer hope.
