π§ Bridge Built, Paving in Progress

CDOTβs $46 million Airport & Powers overpass project has officially reached the halfway point. The bridge structure is complete, with roughly 75% of the paving done, and work continues on connecting ramps and road surfaces. A diverging diamond traffic patternβlike the one at Research Parkwayβwill eventually help ease traffic congestion in the area, particularly for those traveling to Peterson Space Force Base.
Despite some weather-related delays, the project is still on schedule to finish by Dec 2026. CDOT is also building water quality ponds to manage increased runoff. While additional Powers intersections like Stetson Hills and Milton E. Proby Pkwy are under consideration, theyβre likely years away due to funding constraints. Full Story

π» Halloween Spending Watch

Colorado Springs business owners are feeling the uncertainty of todayβs economy as Halloween kicks off the holiday shopping season, but they remain hopeful. Downtownβs beauty shop is leaning into the seasonal appeal while adapting to cautious consumer habits with multi-use products. A bookstore in Old Colorado City is weathering higher supply costs by preparing early and staying flexible.
Despite national concerns about inflation and decreased sales tax revenue, many Americans still plan to spend on Halloweenβgiving small businesses a reason to stay optimistic heading into the holidays. Full Story
β οΈ High Winds, High Fire Risk

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for El Paso County and surrounding areas today. Forecasts call for gusty north winds up to 45 mph and relative humidity levels as low as 13%. These conditions make it easy for fires to start and spread quickly.
Residents are urged to avoid any activities that could spark a fire, such as outdoor burning, welding, or careless disposal of cigarettes. Red Flag Warning is reported to go into effect this morning. Full Story
