🧭 Why 52,000+ Coloradans Are Following This One Local Guy
📸 Meet the storyteller turning our state’s hidden past into your next adventure
You can live somewhere your whole life, but how well do you truly know it? For Heath Gay, a man whose Colorado roots run deep, that question became a calling. Through his venture, Hiking University, he didn’t just guide us through the state’s breathtaking landscapes—from the Eastern plains to the Western peaks—he helped us connect with the land itself. But a deeper story was waiting just off the beaten path.
When the world shifted and group gatherings paused, the very heart of his business was challenged. Forced to trade leading groups for exploring solo, Heath began to see the trails not just as paths to a summit, but as timelines leading to the past. This evolution sparked the Colorado Fan Club, a mission born Jan 1, 2022. His authentic passion resonated, and today, a thriving community of over 52,000 fellow explorers follows his journey on Facebook.
Heath doesn't just guide you to a place; he unearths its spirit. While many know of the gold rush, he uncovered a more profound force that shaped Colorado Springs: tuberculosis. He reveals how the desperate search for sunshine and clean air drove the city’s growth, a medical migration that reshaped its very blueprint—a history hiding in plain sight.
He has poured these discoveries into his popular book series, Forgotten Colorado and The Most Significant Sites in the City. And for you, our COS Town Tidings subscribers, Heath is making an exclusive offer.
📚 When you visit ColoradoFanClub.com to purchase a personally signed copy of Forgotten Colorado: Southern Region or Northern Region or Colorado Springs: The Most Significant Sites in the City, you’ll also receive a FREE, book-specific commemorative poker chip (a $5 value) as a keepsake for your journey. Add “Tidings” in the comments when placing your order. (Great gifts for the holidays!) 🎁
To join the daily conversation, follow Colorado Fan Club on Facebook and discover even more hidden secrets of our region. It’s your chance to finally see the Colorado you’ve never known.
🎉 Let's celebrate and support our local businesses! 🥾

💫 Dave Caught the Lights!

A strong solar storm lit up the skies across Colorado last night, including over Colorado Springs, where residents caught a rare glimpse of the Northern Lights. Rated at G4 intensity (just below the highest level), the storm allowed for widespread visibility throughout the state. Did you see it?!
One of our subscribers, Dave Bachman, spotted the glow near Austin Bluffs and Barnes and captured the above striking photo to mark the rare occasion. While the storm's strength has tapered off, this dazzling display gave many locals an unforgettable show right from our own backyards. You may still be able to see it tonight but it will be weaker in intensity, making it harder to spot.

🔥 Burn Ban Reminder

Colorado Springs Fire Department is asking neighbors to think twice before lighting anything outdoors. Crews have recently responded to multiple illegal burn calls across the city—including people burning trash, dry leaves, and even construction materials. With dry fuels and warm weather, even a small spark can lead to disaster.
Legally, you're in the clear with BBQ grills, outdoor fireplaces, and small campfires (under 3 feet wide and 2 feet high, and 25 feet from flammable materials). But burning trash or yard waste—or using fireworks—is not only illegal, it's risky. Let’s all do our part to keep Colorado Springs safe this season.

It’s that time of year again—Acacia Park is transforming into a winter wonderland as Skate in the Park returns to downtown for its 13th season! The celebration kicks off this Fri, Nov. 14, with a cheerful community carol at 5:30pm, led by the Soli Deo Gloria Choir at the bandshell. From there, the evening continues with a festive welcome from the mayor, a chance to meet Santa himself, and dazzling performances by local Olympic-level skaters.
The rink officially opens to the public at 7pm, so grab your mittens and get ready to glide under the stars. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just in it for the holiday cheer, this annual tradition brings cozy community magic to the heart of downtown.
