π A Colorado Springs Thanksgiving: A Heart Full of Gratitude π

The feeling in Colorado Springs this week isn't just the crisp autumn air β it's the warmth of a community that cares. For Susan, walking through Garden of the Gods earlier this week, each breath was a quiet thank you. The ancient red rocks, the smiles from fellow hikers, the clear view of Pikes Peak β simple joys that filled her heart with gratitude for calling this place home.
Yesterday at the Springs Rescue Mission, Susan tied on an apron and served Thanksgiving meals. The turkey aroma filled the air, but what truly filled her was each grateful smile, each whispered "thank you." She remembered CEO Travis Williams' words "This is not just a Springs Rescue Mission thing... This is a community thing" and felt it deeply as she connected with both guests and volunteers, sharing stories and hope.
Susan had been moved days earlier hearing about Gina, who with family and friends prepared 150 meals for those experiencing homelessness. That grassroots kindness, delivered even through rain, had sparked something in Susan β a reminder that compassion doesn't need grand gestures, just willing hearts. Kindness doesn't wait; it just is.
Today, Thanksgiving Day, Susan stands at the Salvation Army, greeting Fort Carson soldiers as they deliver meals. She watches in awe as these service members, who prepared 2,500 Thanksgiving dinners, coordinate with volunteers. Susan feels the threads that bind our community as we grow stronger. With each meal she helps deliver, each soldier she thanks, each person she greets, she's not just serving food; she's delivering a message of love, of belonging, of unwavering support.
As sunset paints Pikes Peak in gold, Susan returns to her Briargate home. Around her family table, as they share what they're thankful for, she glances out at the mountain and feels overwhelmed with gratitude β for this days of giving, for her loved ones, for this remarkable city that opens its heart so wide.
Later, as she drifts off to sleep, Susan's mind fills with images from the week β faces at the Mission, Gina's inspiring generosity, dedicated soldiers, and her own family's laughter. This Thanksgiving in Colorado Springs, she realizes, is a beautiful reminder that we're all connected, all part of something greater than ourselves.
