⚠️ Free Radon Kits - Why It Matters

A local woman was a healthy mom with no risk factors, until a shocking stage 3 inoperable lung cancer diagnosis changed everything. The hidden culprit? Radon gas silently building up in her home for over 20 years she'd lived there.
You can’t see or smell radon, and it’s the second leading cause of lung cancer and half of Colorado homes have dangerous levels.
This month, Colorado is offering FREE radon test kits to help protect your health (I just ordered mine!) It’s easy: place the kit, wait 48 hours, send it back. Your results could save a life.
Don’t wait for symptoms. Don’t take the risk. Test your home and take action if needed.
Thankfully, after undergoing treatment, this local woman has been cancer-free since 2020, confirmed through follow-up imaging.

🔐 Firearms Safety: What to Know Before 2026 Changes

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is leading the rollout of a new Firearms Safety Program required under state law, with implementation set for August 1, 2026. The program will require safety training before the purchase or transfer of certain semiautomatic firearms, while leaving current owners unaffected.
CPW is using the next year and a half to build course standards, coordinate with sheriffs, instructors, and firearm dealers, and collect public feedback through meetings and an informational website. The goal is to ensure residents have clear expectations, plenty of time to prepare, and opportunities to participate in shaping how the program is carried out statewide.
💰 Workforce Funds for Local Businesses

To support a stronger, more resilient workforce, Pikes Peak Workforce Center is offering $250,000 in Employee Development Funds to businesses in El Paso and Teller counties. Funded through the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the program helps employers train and upskill current staff, especially in high-demand fields like healthcare, IT, manufacturing, hospitality, cybersecurity, and leadership development.
Businesses can choose training that fits their needs, from technical skills and certifications to management and quality-improvement programs. Employers must attend a short virtual info session to apply, with funding decisions announced in February and training completed by late May. If you are a local business, it’s worth registering and attending one of these virtual info session!

⏱️ The 10-Second Aging Check
Local Senior wellness educator Kristen Nielsen is sharing a simple, quick movement that tests four critical skills we need for everyday life. The encouraging takeaway is that this movement can be practiced and improved over time, helping support independence and confidence as we age. A small daily habit now can make everyday moments easier down the road.
