π MLK Day Closures & Whatβs Open

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, the City of Colorado Springs will close most administrative offices and cultural facilities, including City Hall, Municipal Court, the Pioneers Museum, Rock Ledge Ranch, and several Parks and Transit offices. Cemetery offices will be closed, though gates will remain open to visitors.
At the same time, residents still have a few ways to enjoy the day, with Pikes Peak open as usual, Patty Jewett and Valley Hi golf courses operating weather-permitting hours, and Skate in the Park at Acacia Park hosting multiple public skating sessions. Planning ahead can help make the most of a reflective Monday holiday.
Jan 19, 10:25-11:30am: Unity March @ the Antlers to Acacia park (pls RSVP)
Fresh Baked Sourdough breads, pastries |
π§ These Lane Closures Start Today

Starting today, drivers along 8th St will notice lane closures in both directions between Hwy 24 and Motor City Dr as crews begin the next phase of corridor improvements. The northbound right lane closes at 9am near the Fountain Creek bridge while sidewalks, driveways, and roadway features are rebuilt. This phase is expected to last four weeks.
Short-term, moving lane closures will also occur on both northbound and southbound sections as crews locate underground utilities, with work gradually shifting along the corridor into early Feb. Drivers should expect minor delays during busy times, avoid blocking business driveways, and watch for posted detours, while signage ensures local businesses remain accessible throughout construction.
π΅ Aging at Home, Rising 911 Calls

Since 2020, lift assist calls handled by the CSFD have nearly doubled, largely driven by an aging population and more seniors choosing to remain in their homes. These calls, often involving falls or difficulty getting up, now number over 3,000 a year and cost the community more than $1.7 million, while also pulling crews away from other emergencies.
Rather than discouraging calls for help, CSFD is working alongside partners like Silver Key Senior Services to focus on prevention through home visits, fall-prevention education, strength and balance classes, and conversations that reduce fear and stigma around asking for help. The goal is simple: help older adults stay safe, confident, and independent at home while ensuring 911 is available when it truly matters. Full Story

π 5 Quirky Beauty Tips That Work (#3 Is Fun)
This video flips the idea of βbeauty routinesβ on its head by focusing less on products and more on calming the body. Through a handful of slightly quirky but surprisingly simple habits, Libby shares 5 tips that can visibly change your face, mood, and energy. A few of these are going straight on my βtry thisβ list and #3 is already part of my own morning routine and itβs actually fun.
