πŸ”οΈ Olympic Fever Hits COS

Starting Feb 6, the US Olympic & Paralympic Museum will celebrate the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics with daily activities, live viewing of events, and interactive experiences designed to bring the Games home to Olympic City USA.

The museum will be open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm, featuring an Opening Ceremony watch party, daily winter-themed tours, weekend athlete meet-and-greets, and special programming during the Paralympic Games in March. A highlight for the broader community is Downtown Winter Fest on Sat, Feb 7, a free, family-friendly celebration with entertainment, food, and games that spills the Olympic excitement beyond the museum walls.

✈️ New View While You Wait

The Colorado Springs Airport has opened its first rotating art exhibition as part of a new program called Art at COS, designed to refresh artwork throughout the terminal every few months. The inaugural exhibit, Window Seat – Views from the Stratosphere, showcases aerial landscapes, dramatic skies, and weather patterns captured by local artists, offering travelers a unique perspective inspired by flight.

The program builds on the airport’s long-standing commitment to highlighting regional culture and creativity, and this first exhibition will remain on display through the end of April.

πŸ”¨ TRIVIA: Pioneer’s Promise That Outlived Him

McAllister House circa 1874

The winter wind howled through the frontier in the early 1870s, tearing at the fragile wooden homes of a young settlement called Fountain Colony. Major Henry McAllister looked out across the plain and decided his family would build something stronger, a home that would endure where others fell. Brick by brick, he crafted a promise to the future. Architect George Summers shaped its form; a young carpenter named Winfield Scott Stratton, who would one day strike gold, carved its finishing touches.

Between 1921 and 1958, the McAllister House was rented to Mrs. Fanny Robbins. What kind of shop did she run there?

That promise held. When McAllister died in 1921, his house had already watched a town transform into Colorado Springs. For the next 30 years, it remained a quiet presence then rented out, nearly forgotten until preservationists stepped in to save it from demolition. Their victory turned a family home into one of the city’s oldest museums, still standing as proof that care and foresight can outlast time itself.

Now, after 65 years, its reopening the McAllister House Museum for their Winter Season… inviting visitors to step inside the story that built a city. Guided tours on Thurs, Fri, and Sat at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm with $7 admission.

Answer: Mrs. Robbins operated a candy and β€œwedding gift” shop inside the historic home, filling those sturdy walls with sweetness and celebration long after the McAllister’s were gone *Source
