πBreaking Up With Corporate Dentistry π¦·
π Why connection beats quotas every time
Let's be honest: "fun" and "dental visit" rarely share the same sentence. Usually, a dental office soundtrack features the high-pitched whining of polishing tools and nervous silence. At The Downtown Dentist, laughter regularly echoes down the hallway.
Who knew a dental appointment could actually brighten your day?
Dr. Julia Rohleder has spent the last 18 years proving that dentistry doesn't have to feel clinical or intimidating. A self-described "military brat," Dr. Julia arrived in Colorado Springs in 1991. She established roots quickly, graduating from Rampart High School before discovering her true calling in dentistry. Since then, she's built a practice where genuine connection takes precedence over production quotas.
Her approach is refreshingly human. Understanding that the dental chair often triggers vulnerability, she intuitively reads each situation offering a reassuring hand when needed or a perfectly timed joke to break the tension.
The warmth doesn't compromise clinical excellence. Dr. Julia's attention to detail extends from personal relationships to technical precision. She seamlessly combines hometown comfort with advanced technology for everything from restorative crowns and cosmetic enhancements to sleep apnea appliances and essential preventative care delivering sophisticated treatment without corporate stiffness.
This signature blend of compassion and expertise has found an additional home. The practice recently expanded to a beautifully remodeled location on Willamette, maintaining their mission of personalized care while adding a downtown luxury that might be the best perk of all: actual, stress-free parking.

π₯ Shredding Job Turns Risky

What started as a routine afternoon at a local shredding business quickly turned into a safety scare.
Shortly after 1pm yesterday, employees at Vital Records Control (VRC) Shredding on Vapor Tr just north of Aeroplaza Dr near the airport, were feeding hundreds of boxes of paper into an industrial shredder when they noticed smoke, followed by flames.
Two employees acted quickly, grabbing fire extinguishers and putting out the visible fire before it could spread further. However, the flames had already reached a nearby baler machine behind the shredder. Thick smoke soon filled the area, and employees stepped back as the CSFD arrived and brought the situation fully under control.
It was determined the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery that had been improperly placed in one of the shredding boxes. These batteries, even small ones, can ignite when damaged or crushed, especially inside industrial equipment.

Remnants of the lithium-ion battery
The business will need to do some repairs damaged equipment but remains open for walk-in shredding and other services. Community members are encouraged to double-check their boxes before drop-off and avoid including anything other than paper.
Sometimes itβs the smallest items that can create the biggest risk.
π» Surgery Ahead for Emmett

Cheyenne Mountain Zooβs beloved 21-year-old grizzly bear, Emmett, is preparing for surgery after a biopsy revealed a cancerous mass at the base of his tail. Although anesthesia carries risk, Emmett remains otherwise healthy and continues to engage in training, play, and daily routines with his longtime companion, Digger.
His tail and surrounding affected tissue will be removed during a carefully coordinated procedure supported by Zoo veterinary staff and specialists from Colorado State University and Focused Ultrasound Resources. An ultrasound will also be performed to check for additional tumors.
Emmett, who has lived at CMZoo since 2007 after being removed from the wild, has inspired millions of visitors over the years. His care team is focused on preserving his quality of life and is hopeful the surgery will allow him to continue thriving in the years ahead.
