💔 A City Divided: Colorado Springs Bans Sleeping in Cars

Recently, the Colorado Springs City Council has voted 7-2 to ban sleeping in vehicles on public property. The ordinance consolidates existing camping bans and extends them to vehicles.
A first violation will result in a warning and a 24-hour notice to move, while a second could lead to a citation. Officials state fines will not be collected from those unable to pay, and vehicles will not be towed under this ordinance unless other laws are broken.
Supporters say the ban addresses neighborhood concerns about safety and cleanliness and aims to connect people with social services. Opponents argue it unfairly targets homeless individuals, removing a last-resort shelter option.
The vote followed nearly three hours of public comment. Council members generally agreed on the need to expand services and find long-term housing solutions.
The ordinance requires one more formal vote before going to the mayor. Meanwhile, the nonprofit Ascending to Health continues developing a safe-parking program to provide supportive spaces for people living in vehicles.

🚫 New Rules at USAFA

If you regularly visit the U.S. Air Force Academy, whether for medical appointments, prescriptions, athletics events, commissary runs, or simply to enjoy the grounds, you’ll want to plan ahead.
As of March 1, the Academy has implemented updated access procedures in response to the current global climate. Officials say there is no credible threat, but the changes align with U.S. Northern Command directives designed to strengthen safety and security at installations across the country.
Here’s what that means for visitors:
The Trusted Traveler program is suspended.
100% ID checks are now in effect at all gates.
Visitors without a DoD ID must have a sponsored base pass.
Expect longer wait times for vehicle inspections and at the Pass & Registration Office.
The Santa Fe Trail that crosses the Academy is closed until further notice.
🌕 Don’t Miss This Eclipse Tomorrow AM

A total lunar eclipse will be visible early tomorrow morning, March 3, with peak viewing between 3:30 and 5:30am MST. The Blood Moon will take on a reddish hue as it moves through Earth’s shadow. No special glasses are required, and darker skies will enhance the experience. It’s possible the clouds may impact the viewing.
If tomorrow morning doesn’t work for you, the next total lunar eclipse won’t arrive until New Year’s Eve 2028, nearly three years from now.
