πŸš— This Could Get You Towed

Several law enforcement agencies across the Pikes Peak region have been stepping up enforcement on expired vehicle registrations through Apr 11. Colorado Springs Police say they’ll be taking a zero-tolerance approach, and vehicles with registrations that are a year or more expired could be impounded and towed. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says the effort comes in response to growing community frustration and will involve multiple partner agencies, including Colorado State Patrol and departments in Monument, Fountain, and Palmer Lake. If your tags are overdue, now would be a very good time to check before hitting the road. DMV website.

🚰 Local Water Supplies at Risk

Colorado's mountain snowpack has reached its lowest point ever recorded, spelling trouble for water supplies across our region.

When snow levels should have been at their peak by Apr 1, large sections of the Rockies were almost completely bare. At 60 out of 64 long-term monitoring sites, snowpack measurements were the lowest ever seen for that date. Statewide, the snowpack sits at just 22 percent of the normal average.

The primary cause was an exceptionally warm March, the hottest the state has seen in 132 years. This warmth caused the snow to melt at twice the usual rate for the period before April.

Mountain snow acts as Colorado's most important water reservoir, slowly releasing water to rivers, farms, and cities throughout the spring and summer. Less snow now means communities will likely face stricter water use limits and a greater risk of wildfires. Full Story

πŸ‘€ Why Neighbors Are Pushing Back

As City Council prepares to revisit the possible closure of Boulder St between Nevada and Weber on May 26, some neighbors are urging leaders to think carefully about the long-term impact. While many say they strongly support investment in Palmer High School, they worry closing the street could reroute thousands of daily vehicle trips onto nearby roads with fewer protections and create new concerns around student crossings, parking, and traffic flow.

Critics of the closure also point to an alternate concept that would keep athletic facilities more connected to existing campus areas while preserving Boulder St, nearby parking, and several historic homes. For many, this conversation isn’t about opposing Palmer, it’s about making sure growth and safety move forward together.
