🤔 Well... They Approved It

Yesterday we told you the Colorado Springs Utilities CEO, Travas Deal was asking for a $150,000 raise. Today we're telling you the board said yes. Unanimously 9-0. The vote happened at the Utilities Board meeting, which is made up entirely of Colorado Springs City Council members, the same people your neighbors elected.
CEO Travas Deal's pay goes from $550,014 to $625,000 on May 24, then to $700,000 by December 20, putting him in line with the "2025 Large Public Power Council market median." His six-month guaranteed severance was also approved. They say the raise won’t raise your bill. It was “already budgeted.” It equals about $0.14 a month per ratepayer.
All of this while Colorado ranks as the 3rd most expensive state in the country and residents are watching their utility bills climb. When families are stretching to cover higher rates in one of the most expensive states in the country, leadership matters. Optics matter. Timing matters. Full Story
🏁 Local Attraction Is Closing for Good

Pikes Peak International Raceway has announced 2026 will be its final season. The track in Fountain opened in 1997 and spent nearly three decades as a beloved destination for racing fans and families alike. Whether you remember catching a race there, doing the holiday drive-through light display, or just knowing it was there, the news hit the community hard. All scheduled 2026 events will still run as planned.
The property is slated for mixed-use redevelopment, with details coming later this year. The owners say they are exploring ways to keep automotive lifestyle events alive at other venues. Still, for a lot of Colorado Springs families, this one stings.
Have you ever been to PPIR? Did you take your kids? Did you go to the Christmas light drive-through?

🛠️ 3D Printers, Laser Engravers and a CNC Machine For Free

Did you know your Pikes Peak Library card unlocks access to 3D printers, laser engravers, a CNC wood carver, sewing machines, vinyl cutters, and fully-stocked workbenches at no cost? The program is called Makerspace, and it runs at three locations: Library 21c, East Library, and Sand Creek. The idea is simple: bring your idea, use the equipment, make the thing. No need to buy thousands of dollars in gear first.
Some of the bigger machines like the 3D printer, laser engraver, and CNC require a free "badging" training first, available both online and in-person. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are recommended. You must be at least 9 years old to use the spaces.
Heads up: The Old Colorado City Library branch will be closed Saturday May 23 due to Territory Days street closures on W. Colorado Ave. Plan accordingly if that's your branch.
Reserve your equipment and see what's available at ppld.org/makerspaces
