🏕️ More Trails, More Camping

Big outdoor upgrades are coming to two popular recreation areas near Colorado Springs, giving locals and visitors even more ways to enjoy the mountains this summer.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that Cheyenne Mountain State Park has expanded by nearly 500 acres, bringing the park to more than 3,000 acres total. The expansion includes 11 new campsites, additional trail access, and what officials say will be the first managed overnight camping opportunities on Pikes Peak.
At the same time, expanded recreation is also coming to Penrose-Rosemont Reservoir, where new public access will include camping, fishing, paddleboarding, and other waterfront activities. Construction on the new campsites is expected to begin in June, with completion planned by late summer.
For outdoor lovers, it’s another reminder of how quickly recreation opportunities continue growing across the Pikes Peak region.
😬 One Upscale Restaurant Got Flagged
Each week, El Paso County Public Health inspects local restaurants and posts the results publicly. We pull directly from their database so you know where things stand. Here's what caught our eye this week.
Here's a breakdown of the most recent results:

🤨 Re-Inspection Required
🍝 ORO Restaurant
📍 123 E Pikes Peak Ave, Downtown COS
📅 Inspection Date: May 26, 2026
⚠️ Result: Re-Inspection Required, 9 violations
An upscale Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown. This week's inspection turned up a notable list of food safety issues across temperature control, handwashing, and labeling.
Most serious issues:
Improper handwashing (Priority)
Cross-contamination (Priority): Raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat pasta in the walk-in cooler. Corrected on site.
Cooling failures (Priority): Multiple items voluntarily discarded.
Date marking (Priority, REPEAT): Rigatoni held without date labels. Vodka sauce kept past the 7-day safe limit. Items discarded. This is a repeat violation from a prior inspection.
🥇 Top Scores! Some great news from this week's inspections, including comeback stories!
🎉 Cleared Their Re-Inspections
🥩 Prime25 North | 1895 Democracy Point Ste 100 | Re-Inspected May 27 | Passed
Flagged last week for food temperature and labeling issues. Passed re-inspection.
🍩 Amy's Donuts | 2704 E Fountain Blvd | Re-Inspected May 28 | Passed
Flagged the prior week. Passed re-inspection.
🐲 Dragon King
📍 5825 Galley Rd | 📅 May 28, 2026 | ✅ Pass (8 violations, all corrected)
Passed, but this was a busy inspection. Eight violations were cited, including mold in the ice machine, hot and cold holding failures at the cook station, an overstrength sanitizer bucket, utensils stored improperly, and a water heater that was not reaching proper temperatures. Two of the violations were repeats from a prior inspection: cold holding and date marking. All were corrected during the visit. Given the repeat violations, this one is worth watching.

😊 Passed

A downtown pizza institution tucked along the edge of Old Colorado City, Mojo's earned a perfect score this week with absolutely zero violations across all 56 inspection items.

A cozy west side pizza spot that locals love for its neighborhood feel and wood-fired pies. Two items were flagged. Both were addressed during the inspection.

🥾 This Waterfall Hike Is Worth It
Looking for a hike that feels like a true mountain escape without leaving Colorado Springs? St. Mary’s Falls continues to be one of the area’s favorite local adventures for good reason.
The moderately challenging trail winds through North Cheyenne Cañon Park, mixing forest shade, creek sounds, mountain views, and historic Gold Camp Road tunnels before rewarding hikers with a waterfall tucked into the canyon.
The hike is just over 6 miles round trip with steady elevation gain, making it a great choice for active hikers looking for a solid workout and a scenic payoff. It’s also dog-friendly, especially beautiful in late spring through fall, and close enough for an easy half-day outdoor reset.
One important tip: get there early. Parking fills fast, especially on weekends.
Location: Navigate to Gold Camp Road Parking Lot near Helen Hunt Falls (3400 N Cheyenne Canyon Rd, Colorado Springs, CO). Park at the gate where the road is closed to vehicles...this is your trailhead.
