π 18 Speed Signs Coming, Is Your Street on the List?

Part 3 of 4: Safe Streets COS. Earlier this week: traffic circles and speed tables near schools. Today: speed feedback signs.
You have probably driven past one of those signs that flashes your speed back at you. The city is about to add 18 more of them on roads where speeding is directly linked to the most crashes and the most serious injuries.
The signs are real-time reminders, not cameras. They do not ticket you. They just show you how fast you are going so you can slow down before you become a statistic. The city says these locations were chosen specifically because high speeds and crash data intersect there.
π Speed Feedback Sign Locations (9 of 18 listed):
Barnes Rd east of Charlotte Pkwy
Cheyenne Meadows Rd, southwest of Witches Willow Ln
Murray Blvd between Pikes Peak and Bijou
Constitution near Avondale Dr
South Carefree Cir near Inspiration Dr
South Circle Dr north of Airport Rd
Northbound Wahsatch Ave north of Jefferson St
Wahsatch between Columbia and Caramillo
North Nevada between East Jackson and Fontanero
The remaining 9 locations will be announced as installations are finalized. For the full list, check ColoradoSprings.gov/SafeStreetsCOS.
π Tomorrow, Part 4 (the finale): Flashing school zone signs at 5 schools and protected bike lanes on 4 corridors. We will wrap up the full picture of what is coming to our streets this summer.

π§ 70 Yr Old Proves It's Never Too Late to Start

At nearly 70, Karol Whitlow is about to compete in her first track and field event. This Sat, she'll run the 1,500-meter race at the Colorado Senior Games, proving age is just a number when pursuing new challenges.
"I haven't run in over 40 years before I started training with Kristen, for this event," Karol says with determination. "Anyone can do it."
The Colorado Senior Games, returning stronger than ever after the COVID pause, offers an Olympic-style sports festival for athletes 50 and older. Taking place June 5-7, this celebration welcomes competitors of all skill levels across diverse events. Beyond traditional track and field competitions like high jump and javelin, athletes can compete in everything from powerlifting and racquetball to pickleball, swimming, archery, and billiards.
What makes the event special isn't just athletic competition, but the community it creates. "I like to see the seniors participating in any event," Karol observes. "It's nice to see them gather together and talk with each other."
For Karol, who will compete this Sat with coach Kristen Nielson's support, the goal is simple: "Finishing the race." Her journey from decades without running to Senior Games competitor embodies the event's core message that it's never too late to embrace an active lifestyle.
Track and Field events take place June 6 at Garry Berry Stadium, 2020 Glenn Summer Road. They welcome spectators at no charge so go cheer these amazing athletes. Click for more information about participating or the full range of sports.
π Residents Have 90 Days To Move Out

Harbor House, a local sober living home run by Homeward Pikes Peak, have been told they have 90 days to find new housing. It is not about misconduct. The organization is shifting the facility to serve families in recovery, saying demand for that type of housing has outpaced what is available.
For those living there, many in the early and most fragile stages of their recovery, the news has been deeply unsettling. Losing stable housing is one of the highest risks for relapse. The organization says staff will work with every resident to find a new placement and that no one should become homeless in the process.
A TikTok post about the situation drew nearly 10,000 likes, showing our community is paying close attention. Full Story
