🥰 Why We Spotlight Local Businesses

Every Wednesday, we shine a light on the local entrepreneurs who make Colorado Springs vibrant and unique. When you support these featured businesses, you're investing in our neighbors' dreams and helping build a stronger community by creating jobs and keeping our city thriving. 🤗

💕 Colorado Crystal Connections Brings Peace and Education to Black Forest

In Black Forest, Amber Gilchrist is helping our community discover more than just beautiful stones. At Colorado Crystal Connections, she's guiding customers on personal journeys of inner peace and tranquility through the world of crystals and minerals.

Colorado Crystal Connections is a local small business specializing in crystals, minerals, and stones in both polished and raw forms. But for Amber, it's about much more than simply selling inventory.

When asked what crystals customers are most drawn to, Amber says that it varies based on what people are seeking or need in their lives. Even her own connection to crystals shifts day by day.

Education is a cornerstone of Colorado Crystal Connections. Amber takes time to teach about different crystals and minerals, sharing knowledge about their properties and uses. Some of her most meaningful moments come from these educational exchanges. Then when someone finds that specific item that they've been looking for, or the excitement about earning more, that is when she reflects on her work with joy.

Whether you're a seasoned crystal enthusiast or simply curious about starting your own collection, Amber and Colorado Crystal Connections offers a welcoming space to explore and learn. To make an appointment reach out to Amber through Facebook, email [email protected] or through ColoCrystalConnections.com to begin your crystal journey.

🔥 BREAKING NEWS: Pre-Evac Notices

BREAKING NEWS: Firefighters are responding to a wildfire burning southwest of Cheyenne Mountain State Park near Rock Creek Canyon Rd and Highway 115.

The fire was estimated at about five acres early Wednesday morning and is burning in heavy vegetation. As a precaution, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office has issued a pre-evacuation notice for residents within approximately 1.5 miles of Rock Creek Canyon Rd. Residents in the affected area should be prepared to leave quickly if conditions change, especially those who may need extra time to evacuate.

At this time, there are no evacuation orders or pre-evacuation notices for Colorado Springs city residents. Fire crews, assisted by drone technology, continue to monitor the fire and work to contain it. Officials are asking everyone to stay alert and watch for updates as conditions can change rapidly. 🗑️ New Waste Transfer Station Opens in SE Colorado Springs

Got construction debris piling up? Old roofing materials? Yard waste you need gone? Colorado Springs residents now have a new and more convenient place to take it all.

The El Paso County Transfer Station is now open, located off Hancock Expressway east of Circle in southeast Colorado Springs. The facility accepts a wide range of materials including construction debris, household waste, roofing materials, yard waste, and concrete.

A transfer station works differently from a traditional landfill as waste is unloaded, consolidated into large trailers, and transported to landfills in bulk, making the whole process more efficient for everyone.

According to organizers, the new facility is designed to reduce travel time, improve efficiency, discourage illegal dumping, and make responsible waste disposal more accessible across the region, supposedly it’s all part of building sustainable growth for southern Colorado. Full Story

🤝 United Way Centralizes Help for Aspen Acres Fire Victims

As the Aspen Acres Fire continues to grow, now at nearly 94,000+ acres, United Way of Southern Colorado is making it easier and safer to help those displaced by the disaster.

The organization has set up a Donation and Distribution Center on Taos Road in Pueblo, where evacuees can walk in, grab a shopping cart, and take whatever they need - food, water, clothing, hygiene products - completely free of charge. As of this week, the biggest needs have shifted to financial contributions and volunteers rather than physical goods.

A key thing to know: outside groups are attempting to collect funds, and United Way is warning that donation scams often follow natural disasters. Donating through United Way of Southern Colorado ensures your contribution goes directly to fire victims in a transparent, verified way.

Want to help? KRDO13 and United Way are co-hosting a telethon tomorrow, Thurs, July 9, starting at 5 a.m. You can also volunteer at unitedwaysoco.org or check their Facebook page for up-to-date donation needs. Full Story
