🔥 Pre-Evacuation Warning Lifted

Good news for southwest Colorado Springs residents: the pre-evacuation warning issued Wednesday morning for the Rock Creek area has been lifted after firefighters and aerial crews got a handle on a small but fast-moving wildfire near Rock Creek Canyon Road.
The fire started yesterday morning, believed to have been sparked by lightning, and quickly prompted a pre-evacuation warning for homes in the area southwest of Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Helicopter crews made repeated water drops throughout the morning, and by the afternoon officials announced the warning was no longer in effect.
At last report, the fire had been held to approximately 1.5 acres with containment at around 30%. Fire crews remain on scene monitoring conditions.
With active wildfires across the region, residents are reminded to sign up for emergency notifications at peakalerts.org and look at the Ready-Set-Go Wildfire preparedness tips.

Did you know Colorado Springs once had a spectacular streetcar system that wove through the city - and even climbed Pikes Peak? Join the Western Museum of Mining & Industry on Tues, July 14 at 4:00 PM for a fascinating monthly lecture by historian John Haney on the Colorado Springs Trolley System - Past, Present & Future.
Haney's presentation will highlight the colorful history of the trolleys that once crisscrossed Colorado Springs, what became of them, and what the future might hold for transit in our region. Admission is just $5 per person - free for WMMI members.
