What do you call a goat who guides fire crews through a canyon?
👉 The G.O.A.T. - Greatest Of All Trailblazers! 🤣

🐐 Meet the G.O.A.T.
When the Rock Creek Canyon Fire broke out this week, fire crews got an unexpected but very determined escort named Goldie - a homeowner's family goat who apparently decided she was in charge. The little trailblazer planted herself at the front and led crews in and out of the terrain, seemingly picking the safest routes and even nibbling away at some of the fuel along the way. When crews slowed down, she made her feelings known in that very particular, very impatient goat way.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department gave her a proper shoutout on social media, noting she may not be quite ready for a badge - but they're also not saying she isn't. She was, without question, the G.O.A.T. of the Rock Creek Canyon Fire. We love this town.
😲 Restaurants: Closures, Comebacks & Perfect Score
El Paso County Public Health inspects local restaurants and posts results publicly. We pull directly from their database so you know where things stand. Here’s what we found…
🚨 CLOSED

🍣 Tokki
182 E Cheyenne Mountain Blvd | Inspected July 8, 2026 | 12 violations
Tokki, a Korean restaurant on the south end of Colorado Springs, failed its July 8 inspection with 12 violations. The number and severity of issues resulted in a health authority closure. Tokki must pass a reinspection before reopening.
Most serious violations:
Raw fish served without required parasite treatment — FDA rules require fish to be frozen before serving raw (to kill parasites). This step was skipped entirely.
Handwashing sink blocked — the sink required for handwashing was inaccessible, meaning staff could not wash hands during service.
Raw meat stored above ready-to-eat food — a direct contamination risk. Raw proteins must always be stored below cooked or ready-to-eat items.
⚠️ RE-INSPECTION REQUIRED

🍖 Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar
3708 Galley Rd | Inspected July 7, 2026 | 6 violations

🥩 Dickey's Barbecue Pit
7935 Constitution Ave Ste 190 | Inspected July 8, 2026 | 5 violations
Employees not washing hands at required intervals, handwashing sink used for non-handwashing purposes, improper cold holding of TCS foods, and missing required food safety knowledge.
🌲 Black Forest Foods
140 2nd St, Monument | Inspected July 9, 2026 | 7 violations

🍔 Gunther Toody's Diner
5794 Palmer Park Blvd | Inspected July 9, 2026 | 8 violations
Employees not washing hands at required times, cold holding failures on multiple TCS foods, raw animal food stored above ready-to-eat foods, equipment not clean and in good repair, and no required food safety knowledge.

🥾 Colorado's Hidden Rainbow

With wildfire smoke from the Aspen Acres Fire and others affecting air quality around Colorado Springs, heading east toward Calhan may give you noticeably clearer air and a stunning outdoor adventure to boot.
Just 30 minutes east of Colorado Springs, the Paint Mines Interpretive Park is one of only three places in the entire country with this type of geological formation - colorful hoodoos and spires carved by centuries of wind and rain, with those gorgeous pinks, oranges, and greens coming from oxidized iron in the clay. Native Americans used these same clays to make paint for their pottery, and archaeological evidence shows humans have visited this spot for nearly 9,000 years.
The park has four miles of trails, free admission, and is open dawn to dusk year-round. Morning and evening are the best times to catch the colors at their most vivid. A few things to keep in mind: leave pets, bikes, and horses at home, stay on designated trails, and bring your own water since none is available on site. No climbing on the formations.
Location: 📍 29950 Paint Mines Rd, Calhan, CO 80808 | Take Hwy 24 east to Calhan, turn south on Yoder Rd, then east on Paint Mines Rd.
Hours: Dawn to Dusk
