Your Retirement Has a Vulnerability Most Advisors Never Mention.

Dollar-denominated accounts — 401(k)s, IRAs, savings — are fully exposed to inflation, currency debasement, and government policy. Most financial advisors won't tell you that, because most of them don't profit when you know. Here's what's actually available to you:

  • A Gold IRA uses the same tax protections you already have

  • Physical gold sits outside inflation and banking risk

  • Accounts can go live in as little as 24 hours

  • Zero setup fees, zero-fee buyback guaranteed

  • Free 2026 kit explains everything — no obligation

I arrived early to the restaurant. The manager said do you mind waiting a bit? I said no

👉 Good, he said. Take these drinks to table 9 😂

🚧 Road Closure Alert

Credit: City of Colorado Springs

South Academy will close between Hancock and Astrozon starting today at 7pm, Fri, July 17 through noon Mon, July 20.

Crews will install new waterlines, repave the road, and add fresh striping.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Detours will be clearly posted

  • Access to nearby businesses will stay open

  • Expect extra travel time

  • Watch for workers and equipment

Starting 1pm Mon, some lanes near the Astrozon intersection will close for about 3 weeks. Plan ahead and consider alternate routes.

This work is part of the S Academy Improvements Project, the first major reconstruction of this road since 1969... focused on improving safety, mobility, and drainage.

😮 Would You Still Eat Here?

El Paso County Public Health inspects local restaurants and posts results publicly. We pull directly from their database so you know where things stand.

🚨 CLOSED

🍣 Tokki

📍 182 E Cheyenne Mountain Blvd | Inspected July 8, 2026 | 12 violations | Closed by health authority

This Korean poke restaurant on the south end of Colorado Springs was ordered closed July 8 after inspectors found 12 violations. The most serious concerns: raw fish served without required parasite treatment, broken dish machines leaving food-contact surfaces unsanitized, and a pest entry gap under the rear door.

As of July 16, no reinspection has been recorded in the county database and it’s still showing under the “closed” category. The restaurant owner/representative has publicly stated they are open. We report what the inspection records show.

⚠️ RE-INSPECTION REQUIRED

🍗 BB.Q Chicken

📍 1575 Space Center Dr | Inspected July 15, 2026 | 8 violations

Multiple temperature failures across hot and cold holding. Cooked chicken in the hot holding unit ran at 126-128 degrees (must be 135); rice left to cool overnight was still stuck at 53 degrees the next morning; heavy cream near the cooking station was at 68 degrees. Raw chicken and pork were stored above radishes in the walk-in cooler. Sanitizer in the 3-compartment sink was too weak. All issues were corrected during the inspection, but a reinspection is required.

🌮 Daniels Taco Shop

📍 6815 Space Village Ave | Inspected July 15, 2026 | 9 violations

Nine violations at this location included no certified food manager, desserts too warm for safe holding, no working food thermometer, no usable sanitizer test strips, and packaged desserts with no labels (a repeat violation).

🍺 The Sportsbook Bar & Grill

📍 402 S Tejon St Ste 100 | Inspected July 16, 2026 | 9 violations

The dish machine was running below minimum sanitizer concentration, leaving food-contact surfaces improperly cleaned, and a cooler on the line was holding at 46 degrees (must be 41 or below). Meatballs and green chili sauce held at 47-50 degrees for over four hours were discarded. Raw eggs stored directly above ready-to-eat food in the walk-in cooler.

🍦 Frutilandia 2

📍 107 E Pikes Peak Ave | Inspected July 15, 2026 | 6 violations

Food was being purchased and sold from vendors without a food manufacturer license, including tamales, cookies, and beef jerky. All were removed from sale during the inspection. Milk and sour cream in the reach-in cooler were at 44-47 degrees and discarded. Homemade packaged popsicles lacked required ingredient labels.

🛒 Luna Market

📍 280 S Academy Blvd | Inspected July 15, 2026 | 11 violations

Violations, including multiple coolers failing with raw beef at 55 degrees, ham at 51 degrees, cut melon at 51-52 degrees, and cheese out of safe temperature range. Chicharrones hot-holding at 113-119 degrees (must be 135). Food-contact surfaces only being sanitized once a day instead of every four hours as required. Two handwashing sinks had significant leaks.

🍸 Rudy's Little Hideaway

📍 945 S 8th St | Inspected July 13, 2026 | 8 violations

Repeat violations for cold holding and allergen labeling. Two prep coolers were failing, with eggs, diced tomatoes, cooked chorizo, raw beef, and cheeses holding between 43-51 degrees (must be 41 or below). Live and dead flies observed throughout the kitchen, fruit flies in the bar area, and glue traps placed directly above food prep areas and clean dishes. Dish machine and sanitizer buckets running below minimum chlorine concentration.

Passed Re-Inspection

  • Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar 📍 3708 Galley Rd. Cited July 7 for a dishwasher running at 148 degrees instead of the required 180 for sanitizing, plus no test strips to verify it. Fully cleared July 14.

  • Tortilleria Delicias II 📍 513 S Circle Dr. Cited July 8 for leaving large covered containers of barbacoa and chile rojo to cool overnight (blocking proper cooling) and storing raw eggs above raw beef tripe, a repeat violation. Fully cleared July 14.

  • Dickey's Barbecue Pit 📍 7935 Constitution Ave Ste 190. Cited July 8 for reheated foods stuck at dangerous temps (gravy at 86 degrees, mac and cheese at 101 after 3.5 hours; must reach 165 within 2 hours; both discarded) and handwashing violations, a repeat. Fully cleared July 16.

  • Gunther Toody's Diner 📍 5794 Palmer Park Blvd. Cited July 9 for workers not washing hands after handling phones, trash, and raw meat; multiple foods between 71-85 degrees; dirty food-contact surfaces throughout; weak sanitizer with no test strips; and the 3-compartment sink plumbed directly into sewage. Fully cleared July 16.

Perfect Scores This Cycle

🍕 Papa Bear Pizza 📍 243 Washington St, Monument | Inspected July 16, 2026 | 0 violations. Perfect Score!

📋 Also Passed This Cycle

  • Angie's Latin Food 📍 2593 Airport Rd | 5 violations: repeat handwashing failures (employees not washing hands properly, flagged on a prior inspection too), dishwasher tested at 0ppm sanitizer (food-contact surfaces going unsanitized), cold holding temperatures out of safe range, and date marking missing on prepared foods. None were corrected on site.

  • Jinya Ramen Bar 📍 402 S Nevada Ave | 3 violations: missing parasite destruction documentation for raw salmon served in menu items (FDA requires freezing to kill parasites before serving raw), and no pH documentation for sushi rice held at room temperature (required because improperly acidified rice can support bacterial growth). None corrected on site.

  • Miguel's Mexican Bar & Grill 📍 3604 Hartsel Dr | 3 violations: cooler temperature out of safe range, cold holding failures with food above 41 degrees, and improper utensil handling. None corrected on site.

  • Navajo Hogan 📍 2817 N Nevada Ave | 3 violations, all corrected on site: handwashing station was blocked and not accessible to employees, consumer advisory was missing for menu items served undercooked, and a cooler was holding at 50 degrees (must be 41 or below).

  • Crooked Cue 📍 112 N Tejon St Ste 100 | 2 violations, both corrected on site: certified food protection manager arrived during the inspection and an employee was not following proper eating and drinking rules while working.

  • Happy Cats Haven 📍 327 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs | 1 violation, not corrected on site: the facility lacked chlorine test strips needed to verify chemical sanitizer concentration. The owner was told to purchase them before the next routine inspection.

🥾 7 New Trails Open Today!

If you're looking for a new place to explore this weekend, Blodgett Open Space just got a major upgrade. Starting today, Friday, July 17, seven miles of brand-new trails are officially open, giving hikers and mountain bikers more ways to enjoy one of Colorado Springs' most scenic open spaces.

The expansion includes 4 miles of shared-use trails, 2.5 miles of downhill bike-only trails, a regional connector trail, new bridges, improved signage, and a new 50-space trailhead. The project also removed unofficial "social trails" to better protect wildlife and restore the landscape.

Even more trail improvements are planned through the end of 2026, making this one of the city's biggest outdoor recreation projects in recent years.

Hours: open daily from 5am to 9pm. All three trailhead gates close nightly.

Courtesy of City of Colorado Springs

Directions:

Take I-25 north to the Garden of the Gods exit. Head west, turning right on Centennial Boulevard. Head north on Centennial, passing Vindicator Road, wind uphill where Centennial Boulevard will transition into Woodmen Road.

For the south parking lot, turn right onto Blodgett Ranch Trail and take an immediate left to follow the earthen drive to the lot.

For the north trailhead parking lot, continue on Woodmen Road for another half mile where the lot will be on the left-hand side of the road.
