🥾 New Open Space To Explore

Image by By Aaron Rogers, TOSC Program Coordinator

If you're looking to explore somewhere new, Lost Canyon Ranch Open Space in Castle Rock is worth the drive. This 681-acre preserve offers 10 miles of trails through dramatic canyon terrain, rolling grasslands, and forest, and it's still in a phased opening, so you'll be among the first to explore it.

Two trailheads provide different experiences: the Creekside Trailhead drops you into shaded forest and canyon scenery, while the larger Cattleman's Trailhead (125 spaces) puts you on open mesa and prairie with sweeping views. Trails connect to Castlewood Canyon State Park, making it easy to extend your hike. The property was created through a major conservation partnership and remains focused on protecting wildlife and natural resources, so dogs and biking are not permitted on the trails.

Hours: Open daily 5:30am to 9pm (summer). Address: 6581 Lost Canyon Ranch Rd, Castle Rock, CO.
