🦌 Developers Can't Touch This Land

Credit: Palmer Land Conservancy

As Colorado Springs continues growing east, a large piece of the landscape has now been permanently protected.

Wild Horse Ranch, 1,018 acres just south of Highway 94, will remain open space forever thanks to a partnership between the City of Colorado Springs, Palmer Land Conservancy and Great Outdoors Colorado.

The property includes nearly 1,000 acres of shortgrass prairie, wetlands, a spring-fed pond and portions of Jimmy Camp Creek. It also connects with nearby Corral Bluffs and Jimmy Camp Creek open spaces, creating a 2,000+ acre wildlife corridor for pronghorn, migratory birds, prairie dogs and other wildlife.

And someday, we'll be able to enjoy it, too. The City plans to create a master plan with the community before opening the property for public recreation, so it's protected now, but not yet open to visitors.

🍕 Know Before You Eat Out...

El Paso County Public Health inspects local restaurants and posts results publicly. We pull directly from their database so you know where things stand.

🥾 Shhh...This Trail Is Still Quiet

Photo: Lindz Adair via Google

If you want a quiet walk without the crowds, Adams Open Space in Fountain is worth knowing about. Jimmy Camp Creek winds through this peaceful riparian corridor, shaded by cottonwood trees and open to soft-surface trails perfect for walking, jogging, dog walking, or just slowing down.

It's also a lovely spot for wildlife watching. Hawks, meadowlarks, butterflies, and songbirds make their home in the mix of grassland and creekside habitat. Dogs are welcome on leash, and the wide trails are easy for everyone.

Address: 298 S Main St, Fountain, CO
Parking: Free lot behind the Fountain Library + free street parking
Hours: Dusk to dawn
Fees: FREE | No restrooms on site
