Starting tonight, Aug 14 through the 17, S Academy will be completely closed between Astrozon and Chelton from 7pm until noon Mon. Crews are installing an underground waterline, followed by paving and striping.

🥾 1,000 Acres, Fewer Crowds Up The Pass
Let's head west, up the pass to Teller County, where more than 1,000 acres of protected land offer a quieter way to spend a few hours outdoors.
Just outside Woodland Park, Catamount Ranch Open Space & Protection Area winds through open meadows, forested slopes and ridgelines on the north side of Pikes Peak. If you're looking for a hike with a little more solitude and plenty of mountain scenery, this one is worth putting on your list.
Trails range from shorter outings to longer adventures, with routes including the Elder Fehn Trail/Loop and Vayhinger Trails. There's even trail access connecting into the North Slope Recreation Area on Pikes Peak.
Along the way, keep an eye out for mule deer, foxes, birds of prey and possibly bears. The protected land also serves as an important wildlife corridor connecting surrounding natural areas.
Plan Your Visit
📍 Location: Foothill region near Woodland Park; access via County Road 28 (Edlowe Road) off US-24 west of Woodland Park
🚗 Parking: Small parking lots or trailhead pullouts; some routes begin at nearby open space access points
🐕 Dogs: Welcome, but must be leashed
🕐 Hours: Dawn to dusk
🎒 Bring: Water, sun protection & sturdy shoes
With fewer crowds and more than 1,000 acres to explore, this could be a nice excuse to head up the pass and spend a little time in the mountains.
