The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College is kicking off a packed 2026–27 season, with something for just about every kind of art lover, whether you prefer watching from a theater seat, wandering through a gallery or getting your own hands a little messy.

🎭 On stage, the season begins this week with "Come From Away," Sept. 10–Oct. 4, followed by the holiday favorite "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" beginning in November. Next year brings "Grounded," "Invisible Threads: A Weekend of Dance" and the Tony Award-winning "Dear Evan Hansen." Both FAC theaters are also getting upgrades this season with new seating and carpeting.

🖼️ In the museum, exhibitions will explore art, identity, culture and our connection to place. "More Tender Geographies" is already underway, with additional exhibitions opening throughout the season, including one highlighting Colorado's artistic legacy and another featuring contemporary Native prints.

🎨 And if you'd rather make art than just admire it, the Bemis School of Art offers year-round classes for kids and adults in everything from painting and ceramics to fiber arts and calligraphy. New additions include an atmospheric kiln and a hot-metal studio that is expected to bring jewelry-making classes this spring.

With performances, exhibitions and hands-on opportunities stretching well into 2027, there are plenty of reasons to make a return visit. Full Article

Colorado Springs Police responded to multiple reports of gunshots last night near Creekside at Palmer Park Apartments, around 5600 Cedar Creek View. Residents were placed under a shelter-in-place order around 8:50pm while officers searched the area and were told to remain inside, lock their doors and stay away from windows.

The order was lifted shortly before 10:47pm, allowing residents to resume normal activity. As of early this morning, police had not released further details about what officers found, possible injuries or whether a suspect was located.

One year after the first phase of the Tejon Street revitalization was completed, downtown businesses are seeing different levels of recovery.

Red Gravy lost only about 1% to 1.5% of revenue during construction and went on to have its strongest year since opening in 2016, while Jack Quinn's saw a much steeper 18.5% decline and is still working to regain lost ground.

There are positive signs for the area, though: the Downtown Partnership counted more than 93,000 visitors in August, the most since 2021, and downtown restaurant sales were up 7% through June.

Both restaurants appreciate the appearance and accessibility of the redesigned street, but changing consumer habits, particularly declining alcohol consumption, are creating new challenges as businesses look toward the next year. Full Article

Did you know one of North America's most meaningful firefighter memorials is held right here in Colorado Springs? Each September, families, firefighters, honor guards, and pipe-and-drum bands travel from across the United States and Canada to Memorial Park, in the shadow of Pikes Peak, to remember International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) members who gave their lives in the line of duty. I’ve personally been to these events and they are reflective and meaningful to all that in attendance.

It began with a vision from Colorado Springs firefighters. In the early 1980s, members of Local 5 looked over an empty piece of Memorial Park and imagined a permanent place where no fallen firefighter's sacrifice would be forgotten. The City of Colorado Springs supported that dream with a symbolic lease, and the first annual IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial ceremony was held here in 1986.

In what year was the first granite Wall of Honor erected at the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial?

Today, the memorial is not simply a place people visit. It is where families hear a loved one's name spoken aloud, see it added to the Wall of Honor, and stand surrounded by people who understand that a firefighter's final alarm is carried by an entire fire-service family. The memorial is lit at night, and visitors can trace names from the granite wall, a quiet ritual that makes a national loss deeply personal. This year's ceremony will be held on Sat Sept 19, 2026.

This week carries added meaning. Separate from the annual memorial ceremony, on Fri September 11, Colorado Springs will mark 25 years since the attacks with a public remembrance at the IAFF memorial, including honor guards, a wreath-laying, and a display of World Trade Center steel. It is a chance for our city to pause, honor those lost, and remember why this solemn national gathering belongs here.
