One in five adults will experience a mental health condition this year. Most of them will face it silently, not because help isn't out there, but because they don't know where to look.

That's where NAMI Colorado Springs (National Alliance on Mental Illness) quietly changes everything. For more than 40 years, they've been right here in our community, offering free peer support groups, education programs, and resources for anyone touched by mental illness, whether that's you, a family member, or someone you love and don't know how to help anymore.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and there is no better time to know this organization exists. NAMI runs Family Support Groups, Connection Recovery Support Groups, and their powerful Family-to-Family course, all at no cost. No clinical clipboard, no judgment…just neighbors who've walked the same road, sitting beside you.

And if you want to connect in person, mark October 22 on your calendar (Registration ENDS Oct 15 so do it now if you want to attend.) NAMI Colorado Springs is hosting a free Community Breakfast at the DoubleTree Hotel, an open, welcoming way to meet the people behind this work and see what's possible when a community shows up for itself.

Our community leans on a lot of things. NAMI is one of the ones we don't talk about enough.

That's the word I keep coming back to from last Saturday night.

Our Town Tidings family showed up in the most beautiful way. We filled nearly 3 tables. You bought raffle tickets, donated to send a student to the 2027 camp, and I got to hug so many of you and watch you light up meeting each other. That is the community I dreamed of building.

And then the young adults spoke that attended the Rocky Mountain Youth Leadership conference this year.

Hearing from the kids who had already attended the conference. They were articulate, confident, kind and appreciative… the first to jump in when anything was needed.

In a world that feels heavy right now, these kids gave every single one of us the same gift: our future is in good hands.

I heard it whispered at every table. I felt it in my own chest. Hope.
