If you're craving a gentle fall walk, Fountain Creek Regional Park and Nature Center, just south of town in Fountain, is a sweet pick right now. The trees along the creek glow gold this time of year, and the still ponds mirror the color beautifully.
It's a bird lover's dream, too. More than 300 bird species have been spotted here, from herons and hawks to migrating ducks, and you may even catch a glimpse of a beaver, muskrat or deer.
You'll find over 10 miles of trails, including paved, wheelchair-friendly paths and wide, easy loops around the ponds and marshes. The park is free and open dawn to dusk, and dogs are welcome on leash. The Nature Center is open Tues through Sat if you'd like to peek inside.
