Courtesy: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has introduced Cora, a one-year-old red panda, to its Asian Highlands exhibit after a 20-year absence of the species. Cora, who arrived from the Smithsonian's National Zoo, quickly adapted to her new home. The reintroduction comes amid a sharp decline in the wild red panda population, emphasizing the importance of wildlife conservation. While she acclimates, visitors may have limited visibility of her, but she will soon be viewable near the Amur tiger and Amur leopard habitats.
π‘El Paso County Fair: New Attractions
The 119th El Paso County Fair, themed "It's Epic Out Here," is underway until July 20 in Calhan. This year introduces new attractions such as a Pirate High Dive show, a lumberjack performance, and a sensory-friendly day for visitors who may become overstimulated. Traditional favorites like carnival rides, a rodeo, and diverse food options also make a return. The fair includes daily entertainment with admission, and more information can be found on the El Paso County Fair website.
πΉVolunteer Opportunity: Pianist for Benefit
The Lotus Foundation is looking for a volunteer pianist to perform for one hour during the Hope Blooms Benefit for Survivors on August 17th. This performance will take place in the evening before dinner. Musicians willing to volunteer their time and talent are invited to reach out via email at [email protected]. If this is you or you know of someone, please reach out. This is a great organization and people behind it. Check out the Community Corner Nonprofit Spotlight we did on them:

οΈβTrivia: π Saddle Up for This Bizarre Fair Fact
The El Paso County Fair began in 1905 as a simple thanksgiving festival in Calhan's schoolyard, celebrating a bountiful potato harvest. Attendees arrived by various means, including covered wagons and horseback, to enjoy a potato and bean bake, improvised entertainment, and exciting horse races.
The event was such a success that by the second year, in 1906, the fair had expanded to include home economics and agricultural exhibits, races, and its first rodeo. A three-person Board of Directors was established, and the fair was set up on a profit-sharing basis with stock sold at $5 a share.
