๐Ÿ›๏ธ Citadel Mall Probationary Removal of Off-Limits List

Citadel Mall

The Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board has removed Citadel Mall from its off-limits list for military personnel, thanks to security improvements and a three-month probationary period.

The decision followed collaboration between mall owners, local authorities, and community groups, all working to address concerns and ensure a safer environment. Mayor Yemi and Councilmember Nancy Henjum praised the efforts, underscoring the importance of sustained community involvement. Continued focus on safety and communication will be essential to maintaining progress.

๐Ÿ’ฐ $850K Boost to Combat Colorado Springs Homelessness

Homeless

The City of Colorado Springs has granted $850,000 in federal funds to local agencies working to support vulnerable populations through homelessness prevention, housing assistance, and public safety programs. These funds, provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), were distributed through two grant programs: the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG).

The CDBG awarded $450,000 to organizations like Catholic Charities and Colorado Legal Services, which focus on eviction prevention and services for those at risk of homelessness.

The ESG, totaling $400,000, provided grants to organizations including Springs Rescue Mission and The Place to fund emergency shelter services and rapid rehousing efforts. This funding is part of the city's ongoing effort to address homelessness, support low-income families, and enhance public safety.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ New Life for Former Troubled Motel

revitalizing the 4-U Motel

Springs Rescue Mission is revitalizing the 4-U Motel, formerly a site of dubious activity, into a transitional housing facility for individuals moving out of homelessness. Located at the corner of Las Vegas and Nevada, the property will offer a critical stepping stone for those who have completed the Missionโ€™s programs but face challenges in securing affordable housing. Residents will be able to stay for up to two years while they prepare for permanent, independent living.

Specific programming for the new space is still being developed, but the initiative aims to provide a hope and renewal for both the individuals and the surrounding community. Full Story

๐Ÿฅพ 7 Bridges: A Fall Hike to Remember๐Ÿ‚

7 Bridges

As fall sets in, the 7 Bridges Trail, located above North Cheyenne Caรฑon Park, stands out as one of the best hikes to witness the seasonal change in the Pikes Peak region. The 3.7-mile roundtrip trail takes hikers through a vibrant landscape, crossing seven bridges over North Cheyenne Creek.

According to Aaron Rogers, TOSC Program Coordinator, to avoid the crowds, itโ€™s best to visit before or after peak fall color, with early morning hikes offering a particularly magical experience. A peaceful spot by Bridge #1 makes for a perfect break along the way.

If parking near the trailhead is full, hikers can park at the Bruin Inn Picnic Area and take the Bruin Trail to connect with the Upper Columbine Trail, leading to the Gold Camp Road Parking Lot. With its scenic views and calm atmosphere, the 7 Bridges Trail is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace.
