🦍 Farewell to a Zoo Icon

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is paying tribute to Roxie, a 48-year-old Western lowland gorilla and the Zoo’s longest resident, who passed away peacefully after a long life of playful leadership and quiet influence.
Born at the Zoo, Roxie never had offspring but was instrumental in helping raise and guide others in her troop—especially during social transitions and bonding. Her memory lives on through her troopmates Asha, Kwisha, and Goma, and the Zoo invites guests to honor her by recycling electronics, helping protect wild gorilla habitats from coltan mining.
🔥 What Just Changed in Stratton Could Save Homes

A major wildfire mitigation effort is now complete in Stratton Open Space, where over 266 acres were cleared of hazardous vegetation. Led by the Colorado Springs Fire Department and city Parks team, the project targeted areas prone to rapid fire spread by removing overgrowth and sick trees.
Funded through the 2D TABOR initiative, the work helps safeguard neighborhoods near wildland-urban areas. Officials now hope residents will follow suit by clearing flammable trees and spacing out vegetation near their homes—steps that can make a real difference during fire season. Full Story
