🦒 More Than a Zoo: CMZoo's Impact on Our Community
🦍 Learn How Your Contribution Directly Impacts Animal Care and Exciting New Exhibits
Picture a child's face (or your own) lighting up as they hand-feed lettuce to a towering giraffe. These are the magical moments created every day at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, experiences that forge lifelong memories. On this World Giraffe Day, we’re celebrating how this remarkable cornerstone of our community turns those moments into a sustainable future for the animals that call it home.
Unlike most zoos, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that operates without receiving any local or regional tax support. This means that nearly 100% of its funding comes directly from the community through admissions, memberships, and the generosity of donors. The funding is used for daily animal care and educational programs to exciting new improvements.
You can see this community support in action. Donations are currently helping to build a brand-new, 12,000-square-foot giraffe barn and expanded habitats, directly advancing the care of its iconic herd. Your support ensures the zoo continues to be a world-class facility right here in Colorado Springs…recently ranked #2 Best Zoo in the country by USA TODAY.
Beyond financial gifts, volunteers are the lifeblood of this zoo, helping with everything from maintaining grounds to assisting with special events. Whether you wish to become a docent or offer your time as a group, you can be part of what makes this place so special. Your support ensures this local treasure continues to thrive for generations to come.
