🚗 DMV Prices Go Up Monday

Heads up, Colorado drivers—DMV fees are slightly increasing, starting Monday. A standard driver’s license renewal will now cost $32 (up from $31), license plate fees are increasing by around $1.50, and electric vehicle registration will rise from $57 to $60. These changes are part of a broader adjustment to keep up with inflation, and while the increases are modest, you might want to knock out any renewals before the weekend ends. Full Story

🧨 Fireworks & PTSD: Be Mindful

As we gear up for fireworks and festivities this Independence Day, the VA is asking communities to be extra mindful of veterans living with PTSD. Fireworks can be deeply triggering for some, with loud noises and bright flashes bringing on flashbacks or anxiety. Officials recommend sharing fireworks plans with neighbors, and for veterans, reaching out to support systems, using sound-dampening tools, or spending time in quieter areas.
Resources like the free PTSD Coach app or the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 are available for anyone needing help. With just a little compassion and communication, we can help make this holiday more respectful and supportive for those who’ve served. Full Story
🐻 This Tiny Bear Made a Big Impact 🕊️

Beezler, the oldest Asiatic black bear in human care in the U.S., passed away peacefully at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo after nearly 30 years as a treasured member of the zoo family. Known for her gentle sass, quiet strength, and surprising agility even into her later years, Beezler inspired many with how she aged—especially guests in their own golden seasons of life.
The Zoo gave her a heartfelt send-off, with favorite treats, sunshine, and love from staff and guests who gathered to say goodbye before being humanely euthanized. Though small in size, her impact on the community was immense, and her legacy will continue to inspire.

🎆 TRIVIA: Which COS Historic Spot Hosts a Unique July 4th Parade?

Historic Old Colorado City
Did you know the very first recorded Independence Day celebration in Colorado Springs took place in the late 1800s, not long after the city’s founding in 1871? Back then, the Fourth of July meant lively parades down dusty streets, stirring speeches, and big community picnics—reflecting the frontier town’s pride and hope for the future.
Which historic site in Colorado Springs hosts a July 4th celebration where you can join a kids’ patriotic parade, tour Victorian homes, and watch blacksmith demonstrations?
As the city grew, so did the festivities, with fireworks and music lighting up the early 1900s and the first official city-sponsored parade making history in the early 20th century.

Answer: Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site
