🚧 Marksheffel + Powers: Closed for 2 Days

Heads up, today drivers should expect closures at both Marksheffel and S Powers where they intersect with Fontaine Blvd. The brief closure, anticipated to last two days depending on weather, is to allow crews to extend a water main to a nearby development.
Detours are posted, and drivers are encouraged to use caution in the work zone, reduce speed, and follow signs to keep both workers and travelers safe.

✂️ Why 140 Civilian Jobs Are Vanishing

The U.S. Air Force Academy has officially confirmed the elimination of 140 civilian staff positions due to a $10 million funding gap, part of a broader Air Force mandate to reduce 5,000 civilian roles. The news, shared via internal email, indicates a tough fiscal year ahead, with travel restrictions already in place and further cuts expected.
While leadership hopes to avoid involuntary layoffs, the Academy may face deeper impacts like eliminated majors, reduced academic rigor, and even the loss of accreditation in technical fields—concerns that many staff say haven't been adequately addressed publicly. Full Story
🤰 Peak Vista's New Smile Program

Hormonal shifts, cravings, and morning sickness can all impact oral health during pregnancy, leading to issues like gingivitis, tooth decay, and even links to more serious health conditions.
A new program through Peak Vista now brings dental screenings right to the Women’s Health Center, allowing moms-to-be to get checked out during regular prenatal visits. Launched in January, this initiative has already supported 200 local women and aims to reduce preventable dental emergencies through early care and awareness. Full Story

🤠 TRIVIA: Rodeo’s Secret History Revealed!

Did you know the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo was born out of the Great Depression, when Colorado Springs needed hope and a reason to celebrate? In 1937, local ranchers and townsfolk teamed up to create a rodeo that would lift spirits and honor the region’s deep cowboy roots. The very first event was held at the Will Rogers Stadium, built by philanthropist Spencer Penrose near The Broadmoor Hotel, and the entire city came together—shopkeepers closed early, families packed picnic baskets, and the streets echoed with the sound of hooves and laughter.
In what year did the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo begin donating its proceeds to support military service members and their families?

What started as a daring idea became a beloved annual tradition, weathering wars, economic ups and downs, and even a brief hiatus during World War II. Over the years, the rodeo has drawn national attention, hosted legendary performers, and raised millions for military families, making it not just a spectacle, but a symbol of resilience and community pride.
