🚧 I-25 Overnight Closures

If you’ve got evening travel plans near S Academy, take note—both directions of I-25 between S Academy and Santa Fe will be fully closed overnight tonight (Southbound) and tomorrow night (Northbound) from 8:00pm to 4:30am as crews work on refreshing road striping. CDOT has planned detours using CO Hwy 85/87 (CanAm Highway), so expect to exit and re-enter the highway via Santa Fe or S Academy depending on your direction.
Prepare for possible delays and stay alert—this stretch is busy even on quiet nights. If you know someone commuting late, feel free to pass this along!

⚖️ Shooter Still Incompetent After 10 Years

It’s hard to forget the shock that gripped Colorado Springs in 2015 when Robert Dear opened fire at the local Planned Parenthood — an act of violence that felt like something that only happened elsewhere. Nearly a decade later, the accused remains mentally incompetent to stand trial. Despite court-ordered medication, his condition hasn’t improved enough to move forward with the federal case.
Prosecutors haven’t dropped charges, but if they do, the state may still pursue its own legal path — potentially resulting in lifelong civil commitment rather than a trial. Full Story
📚 Library Refresh Coming Soon

If you love the library’s free resources, now’s the time to plan ahead. The Pikes Peak Library District is switching to a new system called Polaris, its first big upgrade since 2001. This behind-the-scenes tool powers everything from checkouts to online catalogs. Starting this Wed, no new titles will be ordered until the first of the year. Then Nov 30, you won’t be able to place holds or browse the catalog until the system goes live Dec 12, but you can still check out books, attend programs, use computers, reserve rooms, and access online resources like Libby.
Once the upgrade is complete, you’ll see a much friendlier catalog with smarter searches, grouped formats (print, eBook, audiobook), reading-level suggestions, and the option to save your reading history—all without changing your library card or PIN.

🦷 Root Canal?
After recently needing two root canals myself, I stumbled on this video a bit too late—but it’s too important not to share. Dr. Michelle, a specialist in biomimetic dentistry, unpacks the risks of traditional root canals and crowns, and offers alternatives.
If you’re experiencing dental pain or facing major dental work, this may be worth a watch before you commit. And while practitioners are rare, there is one right here in Monument who’s trained in this approach.
