🎬 What If Your Second Act Is The Main Event?

πŸ’‘ For one local man, it was a question that changed everything

At 54, Trip Uhalt stood in a house that had grown quiet. The kids were older and gone, their laughter replaced by a loud silence… it felt unsettling. Three decades earlier, he'd traded comedy stages shared with Sinbad and Sam Kinison for bedtime stories. But in that new silence, a question took root: Was this the end of the story, or just the intermission?

The answer came with an improv audition. The part of him that lived for making people laughβ€”a part he'd shelved for thirty yearsβ€”roared back to life. It wasn't nostalgia; it was a homecoming. In 2014, Trip was chosen for that comedy improv group, but in 2018 bet on himself again, launching Oxymorons Comedy from scratch.

This wasn't about reclaiming a spotlight. It was about proving that the brightest lights illuminate others.

He crafted his new path with relentless discipline, posting daily memes to a blank Facebook page and performing in dive bars as if they were Broadway. That grit paid off. Today, Oxymorons Comedy performs to packed houses monthly at Peak Improv Theater, holds multiple awards, and has built a community of 20,000 followers who are part of something bigger than a comedy show.

Every performance is an act of service. The group raises nearly $10,000 for charity each year. Their annual "Hunger Games" event, every November, masterfully unites rival comedy troupes, putting competition aside to support the Springs Rescue Mission.

"We create a space where three generationsβ€”grandparents, parents, and kidsβ€”can all laugh at the same jokes," Trip says with an infectious smile. "There are no awkward car rides home, just shared joy."

This isn't a story about a man reliving his youth. It's about using life's wisdom to build a legacy. Trip proves that the intermission is just life preparing you for an unforgettable second act.

Join his mission. Experience laughter firsthand at Peak Improv Theater every second Saturday (excluding Dec.) Visit OxymoronsComedy.com, where your ticket does more than buy a laughβ€”it helps build a community.

🚿 El Paso County Water Study Brings Relief

El Paso County Water Study Brings Relief

El Paso County’s water strategy received a major boost after an independent evaluation confirmed the Denver Basin Aquifer remains a reliable long-term water source. The study affirmed that the county’s 300-Year Rule, which requires new developments to secure water for three centuries, is both effective and forward-thinking. With no code changes needed, the County’s current practices are credited for helping preserve groundwater levels and ensuring water security for decades to come. The findings reinforce confidence in local land-use planning and resource stewardship.

πŸš— Winter Car Prep Checklist

Winter Car Prep Checklist Cold Coming β€” Is Your Car Set?

Winter will be here soon enough and it can take a toll on your vehicle, but a few simple maintenance steps now can help prevent major headaches later.

Check your tire tread with a penny test, keep an eye on tire pressure, and consider testing or replacing your battery before temperatures plummet. Top off antifreeze and windshield washer fluid (especially the de-icer kind), and make sure you’ve got a winter emergency kit packed with essentials. These proactive steps can help you stay safe, avoid breakdowns, and protect your car all season long. Full Story

πŸ’° TABOR Refund Rollercoaster

TABOR Refund Rollercoaster

If you’ve been wondering whether TABOR refunds are still in the cards, here’s the scoop. For the 2024-25 tax year, most Colorado taxpayers can expect a small refund check by June 2026. But just a heads-up: there won’t be any TABOR refunds in 2027.

Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) limits how much money the state can collect. If revenues go over that cap, the extra must be returned to taxpayersβ€”unless voters agree to let the state keep it. Based on a recent audit and state revenue forecasts, Colorado is expected to have a small surplusβ€”around $296 millionβ€”for the 2025 tax year. Most filers will receive a refund under $100, with the bulk of the money distributed based on income.

However, don’t count on a check in spring 2027. Projections show no TABOR surplus for the 2026 tax year, so no refunds that year. The good news? Refunds are expected to return again for the 2027 tax year, with checks going out in 2028. Full Story
