🦒 Big Year at the Zoo!

Big Year at the Zoo! Best Moments of 2025

I've been following Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's progress all year, and honestly, what they pulled off in 2025 is incredible. The fact that they hit $6M in conservation funding since 2008 through the Quarters for Conservation program shows how powerful it is when you give visitors a real way to make a difference.

But what really got me was hearing about Sully, the gorilla born in July. Thirteen years between births at the Zoo, and suddenly you've got this new life that matters for the entire species. That's not just a cute animal announcement, that's genetic diversity and breeding program success that ripples across zoos nationwide. And the naming campaign raising nearly $40K for animal care? That's the community showing up.

The construction projects are equally impressive. Watching the Giraffe Center come together through Bob's Blueprints videos has been genuinely exciting. When that opens next summer, visitors will get to hand-feed giraffes while the Zoo provides world-class care in a facility specifically designed for it. Meanwhile, the playhill upgrades mean families won't be dealing with puddles and ice patches anymore.

What strikes me most is how the Zoo connects three things that usually feel separate: animal welfare, visitor experience, and community conservation impact. They're not choosing between them. They're building all three simultaneously. That's what a world-class zoo actually looks like.

📜 New Colorado Laws You Should Know

New Colorado Laws You Should Know

As we stepped into 2026, Colorado has rolled out a slate of new laws aimed at improving everyday life. These updates strengthen mental health coverage, curb hidden fees, protect renters and families, support accessibility, and preserve wildlife, all while modernizing how services are delivered. Here’s a quick look at what’s new:

Health & Insurance

  • Mental health coverage must now match physical health coverage standards

  • Insurers must replace car seats involved in accidents

  • Pregnancy-related care coverage updated under new constitutional guidelines

  • Health insurers can send notices electronically (paper still available upon request)

Housing & Renters

  • Housing subsidy applicants no longer required to submit credit history

  • Child care centers must refund certain fees if enrollment doesn’t happen

  • Accessibility standards strengthened in new building codes

Consumer Protections

  • Sellers must disclose the full price upfront, no more hidden “junk fees”

  • Clearer rules around deceptive pricing practices

Families & Safety

  • New gun show requirements for security, insurance, and age limits

  • Streamlined wireless infrastructure permitting for better connectivity

Business & Workforce

  • New rules for food truck licensing across local jurisdictions

  • Updated standards for a new veterinary professional role

Environment & Wildlife

  • Wild bison officially protected as big game

  • Stronger penalties for unlawful harm or capture

Together, these changes reflect Colorado’s ongoing effort to balance growth, fairness, and protection, with many updates designed to reduce confusion and increase accountability across systems we all rely on.
