⛽ Serious Gas Contamination at COS Costco

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS), has confirmed that the Costco gas station on Barnes and Powers was the only location in El Paso County impacted by a batch of regular gasoline contaminated with diesel fuel. The affected fuel was delivered between the afternoon of Jan 7 and early morning Jan 8, and officials say all contaminated fuel has since been removed from circulation.
Drivers whose vehicles were affected would have noticed problems quickly (sputtering, stalling, or warning lights) shortly after fueling. While this information is surfacing about a week later, impacted customers are still encouraged to contact the station where they purchased gas to begin the claims process, save receipts or proof of purchase. If they push back or ignore you, file a complaint at the Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety: 303-866-4967 or online. Repairs tied to the contamination are expected to be covered through the station’s insurance and reimbursed by the fuel supplier.
📝 Census Hiring in Springs

The US Census Bureau is launching an early test of its 2030 Census process right here in Colorado Springs, making the city one of only six test locations nationwide. As part of this effort, the bureau is hiring about 1,900 temporary workers, with most hiring happening now and training continuing into early spring. Jobs are open to adults 18 and older with access to a vehicle, offering flexible schedules that include evenings and weekends.
The test will focus on improving how the Census counts people in harder-to-reach settings like downtown group housing, college dorms, and military installations including Peterson, Schriever, and parts of Fort Carson. Residents in the test area will begin receiving Census materials in late March, with the process expected to wrap up by early summer. Full Story

📵 Hands-Free Tickets Surge in CO

Colorado’s hands-free driving law, which took effect in 2025, was designed to cut down on distracted driving and make roads safer. However, it’s still catching some drivers by surprise. According to Colorado State Patrol, citations have climbed dramatically, with more than 900 tickets issued in 2025 alone…more than triple the total from the previous two years combined.
The law prohibits holding or using a phone while driving, even when stopped in traffic or at a red light, unless the vehicle is legally parked. While enforcement has increased, some local drivers and business owners say they continue to see phones in hand every day, especially among younger drivers, suggesting more education and awareness may still be needed alongside enforcement.
