π° City Invests $700K to Expand Downtown Program

Mayor Yemi signed a $700,000 contract to fund the Downtown Partnership's Clean and Safe program in Colorado Springs. The funding, drawn from the local recreational marijuana sales tax, aims to enhance cleanliness, safety, and support services downtown.
The program expands on a successful pilot that combines security patrols with compassionate outreach. From July through Dec last year, supplemental security teams patrolled over 7,100 miles and handled more than 2,200 incidents, requiring police involvement in less than three percent of cases.
Simultaneously, mental health outreach workers connected with hundreds of people, helping to secure housing and provide access to vital services. Officials describe downtown as the community's heart and believe a thriving core benefits the entire city.
Additional support comes from local organizations including the Chamber and EDC, Visit Colorado Springs, and downtown businesses. The city and Downtown Partnership will continue monitoring outcomes and adjusting the program in collaboration with public safety agencies and community groups.
π PPLD Offers Free Tax Prep

With the tax filing deadline approaching on April 15, 2026, the Pikes Peak Library District is connecting residents with free preparation help and essential resources. IRS-certified volunteers will offer appointment-only services at four branches through two key programs. The library also provides a comprehensive online guide for forms and information, though staff cannot give tax advice.
