Why is it called "the mall"?

πŸ‘‰Because instead of going to one store, you're going to them all! 🀣

Be honest, when was the last time you said something meaningful to someone you love and knew it truly landed?

If you’re not sure, reply β€œNot sure.”

🚧 Bridge Lanes Changing Tonight

Tonight at 7pm, a significant traffic shift will occur over the Fountain Creek bridge on 8th St as part of ongoing bridge rehabilitation. The eastbound frontage road from 8th St to Hwy 24 is expected to reopen, but northbound traffic across the bridge will be reduced to one lane while southbound traffic will have two lanes open. A new multi-use sidewalk on the east side of the bridge will also open.

This construction phase is anticipated to last two to three weeks, and additional utility work under 8th St may result in brief lane closures in both directions. Business access will remain open, and drivers are encouraged to use caution in the work zone.

🏬 Chapel Hills Comeback?

After several national retailers closed in recent years, Chapel Hills Mall is repositioning itself by focusing less on traditional retail and more on entertainment and experience-driven destinations. Plans include the addition of Jungle Reef aquarium, an adventure park above it, and a new Korean restaurant, while local business Cronk Art and Curiosities is relocating from downtown to take advantage of steady foot traffic and more sustainable costs.

Leadership is aiming for 100% occupancy by late summer and plans to improve the parking lot and surrounding areas. While some shoppers remain skeptical, others see signs of momentum and renewed effort, suggesting the mall may be evolving rather than fading. Full Story

β›½ Gas Spike Ahead?

Gas prices across the U.S. are rising after air strikes in the Middle East forced temporary closures at key energy facilities, pushing crude oil prices above $71 per barrel. The national average is now just under $3 per gallon, up 6 cents from last week and 12 cents from last month, as the summer driving season approaches.

In Colorado Springs, the average price is approximately $2.92 per gallon, though some stations remain lower. Industry experts note that it typically takes about two weeks for international market disruptions to fully affect local gas pumps, meaning additional increases could appear soon as traders react to concerns about supply and shipping stability in the region. πŸ”₯ TRIVIA: The N Nevada Spot Locals Refuse To Let Die

Courtesy: National Archives

Did you know that for generations, that low, round building at 2817 North Nevada has been a kind of landmark in Colorado Springs stories?

In the 1935, when Nevada was still mostly dirt and headlights, the Navajo Hogan glowed like a promise at the edge of town. Road‑weary miners, soldiers, and families would pull off the highway to step under that hand‑built log dome, where the roof held itself together with nothing but weight and precision. Inside, it was loud, warm and human: jukeboxes, laughter, smoke curling into the rafters, first dates and last calls all folding into the wood over time.

Over the years, the Hogan survived ownership changes, an interior‑damaging fire in 1981 that left it vacant for most of a decade, and then more fires and a pandemic that closed it again in 2021. Some locals half‑joked about a curse. Yet every time the doors shut, someone eventually stepped up to bring it back. The latest is new owner Bobby Couch, who has poured a year of work and a lot of faith into rewiring, replumbing, and carefully restoring the neon and that improbable roof so the stories can keep going.

In what year was the Navajo Hogan added to the National Register of Historic Places?

Why does it matter? Because when a 91‑year‑old roadhouse survives fires, closure, and changing tastes and still comes back, it stops being just a bar. It becomes a kind of shared family album for locals, the place your grandparents might have danced, your parents might have argued, and you might yet celebrate something big. The next time you drive by that bright sign on Nevada, you are not just passing an old building. You are passing proof that this city still believes some places are worth fighting for. *Source
