πŸ”Œ Power-Hungry Data Center Project Proposed

A California-based company is proposing a new AI data center at a former Intel facility in northwest Colorado Springs, a project expected to bring around 60–100 jobs but also raising concerns among nearby residents. The facility would require significant power, though Colorado Springs Utilities says safeguards are in place to prevent rate increases for customers, including long-term contracts and financial protections from the developer.

Plans include upgrading the building’s appearance, managing noise within allowable limits, and using a closed-loop system to minimize water use. Still, neighbors especially those who experienced past noise issues at the site, are asking for stronger assurances, clearer communication, and accountability before the project moves forward. πŸš’ Please Don’t Ignore This Law

Colorado Springs Fire Department is asking drivers to take the move over law seriously after one of its engines was hit on I-25 while helping protect a stalled vehicle. This past Sunday, the fire truck had been positioned to shield the scene when a driver crashed into it at highway speed, triggering a chain-reaction crash. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but the impact struck an area where important response equipment is stored and officials say if a firefighter had been standing there, the outcome could have been much worse.

It’s a strong reminder that emergency responders and road crews are often working just feet from fast-moving traffic, and slowing down or changing lanes isn’t just courteous, it can save lives.

🌧️ Open House on Flood Plans

The City of Colorado Springs is moving forward with plans to improve the Templeton Gap levee, a project aimed at reducing flood risk and meeting updated FEMA requirements. Because new flood maps are being developed for El Paso County, older infrastructure like this levee now needs upgrades to stay in compliance and continue protecting surrounding neighborhoods.

City leaders say the improvements are intended to strengthen flood protection for nearby homes, businesses, and infrastructure while improving long-term drainage reliability. Residents will have a chance to ask questions and share feedback during two open houses at the Colorado Springs Senior Center (1514 N. Hancock Ave.) on Apr 8 and Apr 28 from 4:30–6:30pm.

🌊 TRIVIA: The Story Behind This Colorado Springs Landmark

Did you know Seven Falls has been stirring wonder in Colorado Springs for more than a century? Long before it became a must-see attraction, the canyon held meaning for Native peoples who traveled and lived in the Southern Rockies, drawn to the streams, wildlife, and stone walls of South Cheyenne Canyon. Then, in the late 1800s, as Colorado Springs was still finding its footing, word spread of a waterfall hidden in a narrow box canyon, a place so dramatic that early visitors reached it by horseback or carriage, just to stand before seven plunges of water dropping 181 feet through pink granite.

In 1882, entrepreneur James Hull turned that natural wonder into something the public could actually experience, building paths, stairs, and bridges while trying to preserve the canyon’s beauty. That balance of access and protection helped make Seven Falls one of Colorado’s earliest privately owned scenic destinations. Even a famous president took notice, adding presidential star power to a place already famous for its rugged beauty.

Which former U.S. president visited Seven Falls in 1901?

Then came the flood of 2013, which nearly erased the experience entirely. But the site returned in 2015 after a major restoration, proof that Seven Falls is not just beautiful, it is resilient. For residents, that matters because it is one of those rare places where Colorado Springs still feels wild, storied, and larger than everyday life.
