πŸ”₯ Red Flag Warning Today

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Colorado Springs and Southern El Paso County today from 11am to 8pm. Expect southwest winds gusting up to 45 mph with humidity dropping as low as 9%, the kind of conditions where a spark can become a disaster in minutes. Fire officials say any outdoor burning or activities near dry vegetation should be avoided entirely today.

The bigger picture is sobering: southern Colorado has already seen 25 Red Flag Warning days in 2026, meaning roughly one out of every three days so far this year has carried elevated fire danger. A second Fire Weather Watch is already issued for this Thursday, Apr 16. Stay aware, and report any sign of smoke to 911 immediately. Full Story

β›½ It’s Not Just the Pump

Colorado Springs residents and business owners are feeling the effects of an unpredictable oil market as fuel prices continue to shift. While gas prices move up and down, diesel costs remain a major concern because they affect shipping, deliveries, contractors, and the price of many everyday goods.

Some local drivers say they’re already adjusting household budgets to make room for higher fuel costs, while small businesses are weighing tough decisions about hiring and future price increases. Experts say the market can change quickly, making it wise for households to plan ahead and leave extra room in the budget during the busy summer travel season. Full Story

🐠 Online Buzz Meets Official Update

Jungle Reef Aquarium in Colorado Springs is addressing criticism that surfaced online just weeks after opening. Concerns included reported flooding problems and a snake incident involving a former employee. Ownership says some claims are disputed, but confirmed they are taking concerns seriously and continuing to improve operations as they adjust to the new location. The business says flooding issues have been resolved, required safety protocols are in place, and recent inspections support that effort.

Jungle Reef also shared results from an unannounced Colorado Department of Agriculture inspection showing no violations related to the complaint. Owners say their focus remains on animal care, guest safety, and creating a positive educational experience for the community.

πŸ‘’ TRIVIA: She Saved Our City

Did you know one of the women who helped shape Colorado Springs came here when the city was still barely a town? Maude McFerran Price arrived in 1873 and spent nearly seven decades here, becoming one of those rare people whose life was woven into the city’s earliest memory and its future at the same time. She was not just part of Colorado Springs history…she helped preserve it, making sure the stories, names, and beginnings of the city would not fade away as the town grew up around her.

What building was eventually purchased to house the thousands of artifacts Maude McFerran Price helped collect?

That matters for residents today because cities can forget themselves. Buildings change, families move, and old stories disappear unless someone cares enough to hold onto them. Maude did exactly that. She helped drive the creation of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and later became Curator for Life, a title that says everything about the respect she earned and the role she played in protecting the city’s identity. Her legacy is still here every time we look back and remember that our city did not become Colorado Springs by accident. It was built, remembered, and defended by people like her.

Answer: The former Knights of Columbus hall *Source
