🚀 41st Space Symposium Wraps Up At The Broadmoor

For one week, Colorado Springs was the center of the universe…literally. The 41st Space Symposium ran April 13–16 at The Broadmoor, drawing thousands of global attendees, 343 exhibitors, and the who's-who of the aerospace world. It's one of the most prestigious space industry events on the planet, and it happens right here in our backyard.
Colorado companies were front and center: Lunar Post (builds the robotic infrastructure for future exploration and commerce) and MMA Space (innovative technology for space exploration) were among the local businesses making their mark on the global stage. The economic boost to our city? Enormous. And a great reminder of why Colorado Springs has become one of the most important cities in America's space economy. 🌌

Each week, El Paso County Public Health inspects local restaurants and posts the results publicly. Here's what caught our eye this week…from the concerning to the impressive.

⛔ Result: Closed — 10 violations
Inspectors found widespread food safety failures across the facility, several of them repeat violations. It was ordered closed until they pass re-inspection.
Large pots of soup at 54-56°F after 8 hours in the walk-in (should reach 41°F within 6 hours) — repeat
Employees and the person in charge observed not washing hands or changing gloves between tasks throughout the entire inspection

✅ Result: PASSED — 1 violation, corrected on site.
Previously closed after 14 violations, Hotpot Story passed their re-inspection. They took the closure seriously and addressed the issues.

✅ Result: Pass — 4 violations, all corrected on site
Inspectors flagged a blocked handwashing sink, a walk-in cooler running slightly warm, a missing allergen notice, and improperly stored utensils. All were corrected during the visit.

🥾 Hidden Trail in Plain Sight

Sometimes the best local adventures are the ones hiding in plain sight.
You've driven past it a hundred times but have you actually explored Austin Bluffs Open Space? This stunning 584-acre space sits right in the middle of Colorado Springs, and most folks have no idea how special it is. Massive rock formations dating back 65–70 million years rise dramatically above the bluffs, with sweeping panoramic views across the city and toward Pikes Peak.
The trail system has been transformed in recent years…today it offers nearly 10 miles of designated trails winding through mule deer country, past red-tailed hawks, mountain bluebirds, and coyote territory. The Lori Cohen Memorial Trail makes a beautiful 3-mile loop around the UCCS campus, while the brand-new Spine Trail runs the full length of the open space, eventually connecting all the way to Palmer Park, creating one of the city's most exciting new trail links.
It's also a Gold Standard Leave No Trace designated site, one of only a handful in Colorado, meaning the community takes real pride in keeping it pristine. Open daily 5am–9pm, no entry fee, dogs welcome on leash.
Location: 6411 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, near the intersection of University Park Blvd and Rockhurst. The park may be accessed through the road easement
