Pikes Peak Young Marines is a place where Colorado Springs youth learn that service can change a life. From flag retirement ceremonies to Memorial Day tributes at local cemeteries, these young people show up with respect, discipline, and a growing sense of purpose.

For members ages 8 through high school, the program offers more than structure. It gives them real moments to practice kindness and leadership, whether they are honoring veterans, helping at community events, or learning how to step in when someone needs a hand. Those lessons stay with them long after they age out of the group.

Right now, the unit is raising money for a trip to Pearl Harbor, where members will honor the fallen and serve while representing Colorado Springs. They are also looking for young adults who want to join, plus adult mentors who can guide and encourage these young leaders as they grow.

If you care about giving young people a place to build character while giving back to the community, this is a program worth supporting. Pikes Peak Young Marines reminds us that service can start small and still shape a future.

Looking for practical tips, new connections, and helpful resources for aging well? ENGAGE! Learning More, Living Well is happening Sat, June 27 from 9am-2pm at the Colorado Springs Senior Center.

This one-day event for adults 55+ includes expert-led classes on topics like AI scams, stress, healthy aging, estate planning, and living independently at home, plus lunch, community resources, and keynote speakers. Registration opens at 8am and tickets are $25. (Only a few tickets left)

At nearly 70, Karol Whitlow is about to compete in her first track and field event. Today she'll run the 1,500-meter race at the Colorado Senior Games, proving age is just a number when pursuing new challenges. With support from her trainer, Kristen Nielson's. Feel free to show up and cheer her on!
