📋 Five Appeals Filed Against The Garden Of The Gods Road Data Center

We told you we'd keep an eye on Project Taurus, and neighbors didn't waste any time. By Monday's 5pm deadline, five separate appeals had been filed against the planning department's approval of the data center proposed for 1565 High Tech Way, near Garden of the Gods Road.
Each appeal cost $175 to file, and rather than letting that fee thin out the opposition, neighbors in the Chelsea Glen and Kissing Camels area rallied and joined forces. One appeal alone ran 200 pages and laid out 7 separate grounds for reconsideration. Planning Director Kevin Walker confirmed appellants didn't need to combine into a single filing, the city is now verifying that each one falls within the required radius (within 1,000 feet of the site, or within 3 miles if they submitted written comments earlier in the process).
If the appeals are accepted, the city has 7 days to schedule a Planning Commission hearing. So, what do you think, will the appeals make a difference in your opinion? Full Story
🎶 Music Lost A Legend: Remembering Clive Davis

Image via official Clive Davis Facebook page
This one isn't local, but it's the kind of news that touches almost everyone who's ever loved a song. Music industry legend Clive Davis died yesterday, June 22, at his Manhattan home. He was 94.
Over a 50-plus year career at Columbia Records and Arista Records, Davis had an almost uncanny knack for spotting talent before the rest of the world caught on. He's the reason so many of our favorite voices ever got a shot: he signed Janis Joplin and Carlos Santana in the late 1960s, discovered Bruce Springsteen early in his career, and famously found and developed Whitney Houston, guiding her into one of the best-selling artists of all time.
A couple of personal favorites, too: Davis talked a reluctant Barry Manilow into being Arista's very first signed artist back in 1974, personally picking the tracks that became "Mandy" and a long run of hits. He also brought Aretha Franklin to Arista in 1980, helping the Queen of Soul relaunch her legendary career all over again.
If you've ever sung along to any of those artists in your shower or car (no judgment, we've all done it), you have Clive Davis to thank for putting them in front of the world in the first place. Thank you for the soundtrack, Clive. Full Story

🛌 TRIVIA: 40 Years Of Local Hospitality History

Holden House owners, Sallie and Welling Clark
Did you know? Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast Inn, at 1102 W Pikes Peak Ave, is celebrating 40 years in business this year. Innkeepers Sallie and Welling Clark opened their doors on June 9, 1986, in a single Victorian home with just three guest rooms.

Welling and Sallie Clark surveyed the Holden House in 1985 “Before” renovation.
Enduring the early challenges including zoning approval, construction loans, business insurance difficulties, to name a few. Then the changing climate with the 9-11 terrorist attacks to the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest wildfires, economic ups and downs, increase of vacation rental properties and new hotels, the 2020 pandemic and more, a steady-as-you-go mentality has been the key to their consistency their guests count on and love.
Question: What did Sallie and Welling Clark help start the year after they opened Holden House?
Four decades later, that one little house has grown into three buildings holding six individually decorated suites, each with a private bath and most with a fireplace or jetted tub. The Clarks have spent 40 years perfecting the art of making strangers feel like family, one full home-cooked breakfast and one fresh batch of cookies at a time.

So next time you're looking for a cozy weekend getaway right here in town, you might just find it a few blocks from downtown, inside a Victorian home with decades of stories behind its doors.
