πŸ₯¬ Recall Still Active

If you recently bought Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce or Marketside bagged lettuce from Walmart, it's worth taking a second look.

The FDA says a positive test for cyclospora at a Taylor Farms facility in Mexico has now been determined to be a false positive, but the investigation into a multistate illness outbreak is still ongoing. Health officials continue to believe the outbreak is linked to iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms, even though no contaminated samples have been confirmed.

The recall affects certain products shipped from Mexico, and Walmart has also removed select Marketside-brand bagged lettuce from store shelves. As far as we know, the Taylor Farms' Colorado Springs facility near the airport has not been linked to the investigation. If you have recalled lettuce (or unsure), officials recommend throwing it away or returning it for a refund. Full Story

πŸ“£ Have Your Say On Data Center

If you've been following the proposed Project Taurus data center, mark your calendar. Due to strong public interest, the Colorado Springs Planning Department has scheduled a special appeal hearing at:

  • Thurs, July 23, 2026

  • 9am (hearing begins)

  • Pam Shockley-Zalabak Theater, Ent Center for the Arts, 5225 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80918

Anyone wishing to speak must register in person on the day of the hearing, with speakers called in the order they sign up. If you can't attend, written comments may be submitted by Wed, July 22, and the hearing will also be livestreamed for those who want to follow the discussion from home.

β˜€οΈ Summer Lawn Survival Tips

With Colorado Springs in the middle of another hot, dry summer, keeping your lawn green takes more than simply turning on the sprinklers. Since Utilities customers are limited to watering 3 days a week before 10am or after 6pm, making the most of each watering session is key.

A local landscaper says healthy grass also depends on proper fertilizing, mowing at the right height, and making sure sprinkler heads aren't blocked by taller grass. Looking ahead, he also recommends winter watering during mild days, saying it can help lawns stay healthier through next summer. Full Story

🧱 TRIVIA: Which Hand-Built Monument Guards Colorado Springs?

Did you know the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun isn’t just an eye-catching tower on the mountain, it was Spencer Penrose’s bold tribute to aspiration, innovation, and the spirit of the West? Built in 1937 using 20,000 tons of Cheyenne Mountain granite hauled and assembled entirely by hand. The tower was dedicated to Will Rogers, a national icon whose humor bridged divides during the Great Depression.

Which animal figure can be found carved into the ironwork of the shrine’s entrance gates?

The shrine’s lofty location was chosen so it could watch over the city and Penrose’s beloved Broadmoor, while inside, rare murals reveal the struggles and triumphs of Colorado’s earliest people, settlers, and the wild energy of the 20th century. Every visit is a journey through local ambition, loss (Penrose, his wife, and close friends are entombed here), and a sweeping view that has seen nearly a century of change in Colorado Springs, making the shrine not just a monument, but a living memory of courage, dreams, and legacy.
