🏛️ CO Tax Relief Deal Faces Tough Road Ahead
Colorado's special legislative session is centered on a crucial property tax relief deal. Lawmakers aim to strike a balance between offering tax cuts to residents and businesses while safeguarding local government revenues. The session's main bill, House Bill 24B-1001, proposes significant tax rate reductions and revenue caps for local governments. Several other proposals were quickly dismissed on the first day, leaving a few key bills for further debate today. The session's outcome could have lasting impacts on Colorado's tax policy and local government funding. Full Story
🎸 New Website Takes Aim at Ford Venue Noise
Residents living near the newly opened Ford Amphitheater in northern Colorado Springs are escalating their efforts to address ongoing noise complaints by taking their concerns to the City Council today. A new website, Fordhurtsfamilies.org, has been created to facilitate these complaints, directing them to the city and Ford Motor Company, the venue’s sponsor. The website highlights the adverse effects of the noise on vulnerable groups (veterans with PTSD, children with autism, migraine-prone individuals, older adults, etc) and local property values. Meanwhile, the amphitheater’s parent company, Venu, maintains that the venue is operating within the noise limits set by the city and has provided data to support this claim. As tensions rise, residents are urging both the city and Ford to implement more effective noise control measures.
🩺 Is Peak Vista Putting Patients Last?
Peak Vista Community Health Centers, serving nearly 90,000 patients in Colorado's Pikes Peak region, is under scrutiny for alleged unfair labor practices after increasing patient loads for healthcare providers. The non-profit organization is accused of pressuring doctors and nurses to see more patients daily while reducing the time spent with each (from what we’ve observed is a common practice in the healthcare industries these days.) These changes have reportedly led to the termination of several providers who resisted the new policies, prompting the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) to file federal charges.
As the union pushes for reinstatement of the dismissed staff and a rollback of the new practices, patients express frustration over losing trusted healthcare providers without prior notice. Amid growing tensions, efforts to unionize the medical staff are gaining momentum.

🚔 Police Hunt Suspect After Fatal Westside Shooting
Yesterday afternoon, a deadly shooting on the west side of Colorado Springs resulted in one fatality and a subsequent car crash. Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to reports of gunfire around 1:45pm on the 4200 block of Chestnut St, near Garden of the Gods and I-25. When officers arrived, they found an adult victim deceased from at least one gunshot wound, with a black pickup truck crashed into a tree nearby.
As of 4am this morning, the investigation continues, the CSPD's homicide unit is actively searching for the suspect, who is not yet in custody. Witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots before the crash, and police are currently seeking a silver four-door sedan as a vehicle of interest. The area may still be closed off as authorities gather more information, and residents are encouraged to contact police with any leads to their non emergency line 719-444-7000.
