๐ณ City Closures & Holiday Fun
Today, Colorado Springs will observe Labor Day with the closure of all administrative offices, including the City Administration Building, Municipal Court, and various community centers. However, outdoor enthusiasts can still enjoy the Garden of the Gods Park, Pikes Peak, and several other recreational facilities, many of which will operate with modified hours. The holiday marks the final day of operation for some popular spray grounds and fountains. Golf courses will also be open, with public play available at specific times. A Labor Day Vintage Base Ball game at Rock Ledge Ranch is scheduled for 1pm. Click for specific details.

๐บ ABC and ESPN Vanish from DirecTV Lineup
Disney has removed ABC, ESPN, and several other networks from DirecTV after the two companies couldn't agree on a new distribution contract, impacting over 11 million satellite subscribers. The blackout, which affects major sports events, highlights the growing tension between content providers and distributors. Disney argues that its rates are fair, while DirecTV claims Disney's demands are excessive. This dispute reflects the industry's shift towards streaming services, leaving traditional pay TV providers struggling to offer competitive packages. The standoff will leave millions of viewers in the dark as the NFL season looms. Full Story
โ๏ธ Big Changes in Property TaxesโHereโs the Scoop
After a four-day special session last week, Colorado legislators approved a bipartisan bill to lower property taxes for homeowners and businesses, offering significant relief while preventing two potentially harmful ballot initiatives from appearing in the November election. The measure, which builds on a broader tax relief package, is expected to save the average homeowner about $80, with additional savings in the coming years. Though the deal was celebrated for its bipartisan nature, some lawmakers criticized the process and its potential benefits to wealthier citizens. Governor Jared Polis is expected to sign the bill into law. Full Story
๐ถโโ๏ธ Simple Exercises to Boost Balance!
Standing exercises designed to help older adults stay active and independent. This quick routine is based on the SAIL (Staying Active for Independent Living) program. For those susceptible to shin splints, skip the toe lifts in the beginning. The exercises gradually increase in difficulty all aimed at improving strength and balance. Safety tips are emphasized, only advancing to more challenging variations when comfortable.

๐ Thieves Caught Thanks to Facebook Tip-Off
Colorado Springs police successfully arrested three individuals involved in a series of thefts after a burglary victim found their stolen property listed on Facebook Marketplace. The investigation, led by the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit, tracked the suspects to a storage facility on South Circle. Officers followed the suspects to a nearby shopping center, where they were detained. The primary suspect, Matthew Kingery, was linked to the crimes and found in possession of additional stolen items, including two vehicles and firearms. Kingery is currently in custody, with a court date set for Sept 11th.
