🚗 El Paso County’s Big Registration Push
In response to rising concerns from residents, El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal announced a coordinated enforcement effort targeting vehicles with expired or unregistered plates. Partnering with CSPD and Colorado State Patrol, the initiative aims to address violations along the Front Range. Sheriff Roybal stressed the importance of responsible registration to ensure public services like road maintenance are properly funded.
The Clerk and Recorder reminded residents of the ease of registration through 15 locations and several kiosks.
📈 Big Questions at UCCS Economic Forum
The 2024 UCCS Economic Forum, Sept 26 at the ENT Center for the Arts, will bring together business leaders, elected officials, and community members to discuss the region’s economic future. The event will provide data-driven insights into local and national trends. Breakout sessions will focus on pressing issues such as affordable housing, inflation, real estate, and small business growth. The forum begins at 1pm, with doors opening at noon. Tickets are $65, and the event will also be streamed online by KOAA for those unable to attend.
♿ Visitor Center Achieves Accessibility

This distinction confirms the center’s efforts to provide inclusive experiences for visitors of all abilities, making nature and community spaces welcoming for everyone, while continuing to work on further improvements.
🎬 Trivia: Which Local Landmark Was a Film Industry Giant?
Did you know, in the mid-20th century, Colorado Springs was home to a cinematic powerhouse that revolutionized the advertising industry?
The Alexander Film Company, founded by brothers J. Don and Don M. Alexander, moved to our city in 1928 and quickly became a trailblazer in producing short advertisement clips for cinematic films. At its peak in the early 1950s, this local giant employed a staggering 600 people, injecting over $2.5 million annually into the local economy.
Imagine the bustling 260-acre facility, East of Nevada and North of Fillmore, where creativity and innovation flourished across 32 full-size motion picture sets. Today, some of the buildings still exist and have been repurposed…check out what’s here today!
The company's impact extended far beyond our city limits, serving 75 of the nation's leading manufacturers and becoming the world's largest producer of theater film advertising.
🤓 Poll: At its peak, how many short advertisement films did the Alexander Film Company produce annually? |
Nostalgia Time! Take a moment to envision yourself in a dimly lit cinema of the past, watching one of Alexander's meticulously crafted, attention-grabbing ads before the main feature. Now, can you guess just how prolific this local company became in its heyday?
