🍔 From Bowling Alley to Restaurateur: Local Success Story
🏆 The Alexander: Where Award-Winning Food Meets Small-Town Hospitality
What's the secret ingredient that turns a high school graduate into a successful restaurateur? For Matt McCartan, it's a dash of determination, a pinch of patience, and a heaping helping of entrepreneurial spirit.
Picture this: A young Matt, fresh out of high school, choosing to forgo college and instead diving headfirst into the world of hospitality (after a 10 yr stint in automotive.) His first stop? Bartending part-time at a local bowling alley. Little did he know, this would be the first step on a journey that would reshape Colorado Springs' dining scene.
When the housing crisis hit and the bowling alley closed, Matt saw an opportunity where others saw defeat. He purchased their bar equipment, tucking it away in storage until the perfect moment arrived. In 2013, that moment came with the opening of the original Public House, starting with just three employees and a dream.
Fast forward to today, and Matt's vision has expanded to three thriving establishments.* The Public House at The Alexander, which opened in 2021, stands as a testament to Matt's growth and the community's embrace of his culinary vision.
Step into The Alexander, and be greeted by Stephanie, the award-winning bartender and manager. She'll guide you through a scratch-made menu that showcases the best local flavors, from juicy burgers to creative weekly specials crafted by talented chefs.
The Public House at The Alexander is more than just a restaurant; it's a community hub. With events like Thursday Trivia, Sunday Swing Dancing, and monthly comedy shows, there's always a reason to gather and celebrate.

🩺 Shop Smart for Healthcare Costs
The Center for Improving Value in Healthcare has introduced “Shop for Care,” a digital tool that allows Colorado residents to compare prices for medical procedures at hospitals and facilities across the state. The platform displays average costs billed to insurance companies and offers details on procedure costs, facility locations, and patient ratings. This service aims to reduce financial uncertainty and improve access to healthcare by making pricing more transparent.
While costs shown may not include all related fees, the tool helps users make informed decisions by comparing both price and quality of care. It’s part of a larger effort to eliminate cost-related barriers to essential health services. Full Story
