๐ข From A Cold Cage To A Loving Home
๐ A profoundly moving story of second chances with the local National Mill Dog Rescue. Get the tissues ready. ๐คง
Every so often, a story I research for our community spotlight makes me gasp. This is one of them. Learning about the National Mill Dog Rescue was a deeply emotional experience. The harsh reality these dogs face is heartbreaking, but the hope and love this organization provides is truly remarkable. This is a story of incredible resilience and compassion, happening right here in our local area.
It all began with one dog. In 2007, founder Theresa Strader rescued Lily, an Italian Greyhound who had spent seven years in a puppy mill. Confined to a small wire cage for her entire life, she was physically and emotionally broken. Determined that Lilyโs suffering would not be in vain, Theresa started National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR).
Since that day, a team of mostly volunteers has carried Lilyโs legacy forward, welcoming dogs who have known nothing but fear. With immense patience, they begin the slow process of healing, mending not just physical wounds, but broken spirits. All of this love and care is a bridge to a new lifeโa life in a forever home. They are teaching these deserving souls to trust, so they can finally experience a soft bed, a full belly, and the joy of being a loyal companion. NMDR doesnโt just save dogs from their past; they prepare them for a beautiful future with someone like you.
Reading this, you might feel that pull on your heart. That is the call to help. You can be the gentle hand that helps a timid dog learn to trust by volunteering.
Or, you could open your home and be the final, beautiful chapter in their rescue story by adopting. These dogs are just waiting for their person. Maybe that person is you.

๐ถ Meet the Dogs and Feel the Hope Tomorrow!
There is no better way to understand the incredible work of NMDR than to see it for yourself. Tomorrow, Sun Oct 12 (11am-3pm), you're invited to their Pumpkin Paw-ty Family Event at the Peyton shelter.
Come meet some of the resilient dogs, talk to the passionate volunteers, and feel the powerful spirit of this organization. Itโs a wonderful day of fall funโwith pumpkin painting, food trucks, and gamesโthat supports a life-changing mission.
