🕊️ The Street Story Colorado Springs Needs To Hear Today

On cold Colorado Springs mornings, when many of us are reaching for a second cup of coffee, a small group of neighbors is loading cars with coats, socks, hygiene kits, and kindness…simply because they choose to. That simple idea became the name of their nonprofit: Because We Choose To, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to showing up for people experiencing homelessness and deep hardship across our city.
What began as a few friends handing out clothing and toiletries downtown has grown into regular outreach events at places like Antlers Park, where hot meals, warm layers, and dignity are shared side by side. You’ll see volunteers offering gloves, warm clothing, and other essentials, and also listening to stories, remembering names, and reminding our unhoused neighbors that our community has not forgotten them.
Because We Choose To runs on heart, not hierarchy…driven by volunteers, small donations, and the belief that one act of care can change the direction of someone’s day. If you’ve ever wanted to do something tangible about homelessness but weren’t sure where to start, this is a gentle, real way to step in: help collect clothing, assemble toiletry kits, or simply show up and serve alongside others who care.
